Thirteen times Cobolli has faced top 10 players in a completed match and he's lost all 13. Will that all change in the French capital on Tuesday? He's probably never had a better opportunity. Shelton was in career-best form and a genuine shot at the US Open title when he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to pull out of the tournament. The American has lost two of his three matches since returning to the likes of David Goffin and Jaume Munar, while he's never flourished at the Paris Masters, failing to go beyond the second round.

Cobolli has also put together a career-best season and he's beaten Shelton on two occasions before, while he also pushed him all the way when the American was playing his best ever tennis to win the Canada Masters just before the US Open. If Cobolli can almost beat Shelton in that sort of form, then he is a massive chance against this version of the fifth seed. Backing the Italian to secure that elusive top 10 scalp, with more value with the match eclipsing Over 24.5 games for the fifth straight time.

Currently level at 2-2. Cobolli won the first two meetings in three sets in 2024 at Geneva and Washington before Shelton prevailed in their two 2025 encounters, firstly 7-6 7-6 in Acapulco before a 6-4 4-6 7-6 victory en route to his Canada Masters title.

Shelton has compiled a 38-20 record on the season, rising to a career-high ranking of No. 6 and cementing himself as one of the most exciting young players on tour.

A proven big match and big tournament player, Shelton made the Australian Open semi-finals and the quarter-finals of Wimbledon before claiming his maiden Masters 1000 title in Canada, defeating the likes of Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov along the way.

The American followed up that result by making the Cincinnati Masters quarter-finals and was looking strong at the US Open before a shoulder injury forced him to retire in the third round.

Shelton missed most of the Asian swing, returning in Shanghai to lose in straight sets in the opening round to David Goffin. The 23-year-old managed to edge past Kamil Majchrzak in his Basel opener last week, but lost in the second round in straights to Jaume Munar.

Cobolli heads into this clash with a 31-25 record on the year, recovering from a dreadful start to hit a career-high ranking of No. 17 (currently No. 23 heading into Paris).

The Italian lost seven consecutive matches from Auckland through to Miami, but bounced back strongly in the clay swing to win two ATP titles in Bucharest and Hamburg, while he took his game to another level on the grass when he made his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon.

Cobolli had a decent American summer, reaching the R16 of the Canada Masters and the third round of the US Open.

It hasn't been the greatest end to the year so far for Cobolli - he hasn't won back-to-back matches since the US Open, but he did register an impressive straight sets victory over Tomas Machac in his Paris opener, while he played a good match against Jannik Sinner in Vienna last week.
