The 2026 ATP Shanghai Masters gathers a high-caliber field at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, with Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz topping the seeds. Despite strong odds, the article suggests looking beyond the favorites due to Zverev’s struggles against elite opponents and Alcaraz’s swift post-injury turnaround. Value bets are highlighted on Daniil Medvedev ($23), Learner Tien ($26), and Karen Khachanov ($51), each offering a proven track record and favorable draw conditions. Medvedev’s hard-court resurgence, Tien’s steady rise, and Khachanov’s history in Masters add to their appeal.

The ATP Tour's Asian swing moves to Shanghai this week, with a stacked field assembling for the 2026 Shanghai Masters.

First established in 2009, the tournament is staged at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena on outdoor hard courts and carries ATP Masters 1000 status, with a 96-player singles draw and $9,415,725 in prize money.

Valentin Vacherot is the defending champion after his remarkable run to the title in 2025, while Novak Djokovic owns the tournament record with four singles crowns.

Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz occupy the top two spots in the draw and are two of the leading contenders in the outright market, but we're happy to oppose both at their current prices.

Zverev's overall 2026 season has been outstanding, including major titles at Roland Garros and the US Open, but his results against the very best players provide a significant warning for anyone considering taking a short price. The German has gone 3-12 in his last 15 matches vs top 10 players and repeatedly stumbling when facing elite opposition.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz is still in the relatively early stages of his comeback from the wrist injury that interrupted his season. He's reached the Tokyo final this week, but that also means another quick turnaround before Shanghai after several physically demanding matches.

Add in the fact Alcaraz has never progressed beyond the Shanghai quarter-finals and $2.35 looks short enough in a 96-player Masters draw.

With those two favourites opposed, we're looking further down the market for three value selections, which you can find below, with reasoning behind each selection.

ATP Shanghai 2026 - 3 Value Tips

Danill Medvedev

There's enough evidence to suggest Medvedev is trending back towards his best level on hard courts, and $23 is a big enough price to take the chance that continues in Shanghai.

The former World No. 1 knows exactly what it takes to win this tournament. Medvedev lifted the Shanghai title in 2019, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-1 in the final without dropping a set across the entire tournament.

More importantly, his current form is significantly better than the outright market might initially suggest.

Medvedev entered his Beijing semi-final against Djokovic riding a seven-match winning streak after winning the Hangzhou title and progressing through his opening three rounds in Beijing without dropping a set.

His China Open campaign ultimately ended in bizarre circumstances in the semi-finals. Medvedev was defaulted against Djokovic after a ball he struck hit a spectator, with Djokovic leading 7-5, 5-3 at the time. The result therefore looks ugly on paper, but it doesn't change the broader picture of Medvedev's recent resurgence.

The draw is another reason to be interested.

As the No. 5 seed, Medvedev sits away from both Zverev and Alcaraz in the early rounds and has the opportunity to build his way into the tournament before potentially confronting the leading names later in the week.

Shanghai has traditionally rewarded his combination of elite defence, flat groundstrokes and ability to absorb pace and we've already seen him put together one dominant title run at this venue.

At $23, Medvedev doesn't need to be considered the most likely champion in the field. Given his current trajectory, proven Shanghai pedigree and considerably bigger price than the favourites, he offers the best value at the top end of the market.

Learner Tien

Tien continues to establish himself as one of the most difficult young players on tour to put away, and the 20-year-old has landed in one of the more appealing sections of the Shanghai draw.

The American's rise over the last couple of seasons has been steady rather than sudden.

Tien has gone deep in China before after making the Beijing final last year and his consistency since then has pushed him into the top 15 and earned him the No. 14 seed in Shanghai.

His ability to extend rallies, redirect pace and make opponents play an extra ball makes him particularly dangerous in these conditions. He's not reliant on serving his way through matches, which gives him more routes to victory when his first serve isn't firing.

Most importantly from an outright perspective, his section of the Shanghai draw doesn't contain the same concentration of established contenders as some of the other quarters.

That creates an opportunity.

At this stage of his career, backing Tien at $26 is partly about anticipating further improvement before the market fully catches up. He's already demonstrated he can produce deep runs against strong fields, while his consistency from the baseline makes him an awkward opponent for virtually anyone.

In the most open quarter of the draw, Tien has a genuine opportunity to work his way into the latter stages.

Karen Khachanov

Khachanov is our longshot selection and there's enough upside at $51 to get involved.

The Russian has returned to some strong tennis over the last couple of months and remains a player with an established record of making deep runs at Masters 1000 level.

Khachanov has reached the quarter-finals or better at 11 Masters 1000 tournaments during his career, highlighted by his 2018 Paris title and another final appearance in Canada in 2025. He beat four consecutive top-10 opponents to capture that Paris crown, including Djokovic in the final, while his Canadian run was his first Masters final since that breakthrough triumph.

That's important when assessing a player at $51.

We're not relying on someone who has never demonstrated the ability to survive a week against elite opposition. Khachanov has already done it at this level and has repeatedly put himself into the latter stages of Masters tournaments.

There have also been encouraging recent signs. Khachanov knocked out No. 2 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing last week, which followed his run to the US Open semi-finals - another reminder that his best tennis remains capable of taking down highly ranked opponents.

His game is also well suited to hard courts when the serve and forehand are clicking. Khachanov can earn plenty of cheap points behind his first delivery, while his weight of shot allows him to dictate without needing to take excessive risks.

The draw adds to the appeal. He's landed in a section where another Masters quarter-final is a realistic target rather than requiring an immediate run through multiple tournament favourites.

From there, anything can happen.

Khachanov isn't the safest outright selection in the field, but that's reflected in the $51 quote. For a player with a Masters 1000 title, another Masters final and an extensive history of reaching the last eight at this level, the price provides enough upside.
