Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm NRL 2025 Round 22 FAQ’s

Even with Jahrome Hughes set for a stint on the sideline, the strength of this Melbourne unit is their system and structure. They are able to plug and play in almost any position and have shown multiple times over the past few years that they are at another level in terms of depth and coaching.

The Eels looked good against Brisbane last weekend but still rank 16th in Run Metres and Tackles Inside 20m. They also fail to restrict their opponents from marching up the field and struggle to defend their goal line at any respectable rate.

Eels vs Storm Rd 22 Cheat Sheet

They are 2nd last in average points conceded over the past 5 games letting in 29.2 per outing with an average losing margin at home (3-5 record) of 19.6 pts.

Take Melbourne to cover the line at Commbank where they have won 2 straight and 3 of their last 4 games played there. Take their Team Total Over against a poor defensive outfit. Josh Addo-Carr is starting to fire again scoring the last try against the Broncs, book him in for one here.

The Storm have won 5 straight against the Eels and are the top ranked defensive team in terms of Opposition Run Metres.
Melbourne are also the 3rd ranked defensive team for Opposition Line Breaks, Parramatta average just 4.6 Linebreaks per game, 13th ranked in the league.
The Storm have won only 1 of 5 games played without Jahrome Hughes over the past 2 years, it was against Parramatta in 2024.
Melbourne have allowed 51% of their opposition tries down the right edge (opposite Addo-Carr)

Head to Head

Melbourne have won 5 straight against Parramatta and 6 of the last 11 dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Eels have not scored more than 18 points during that 5 game streak with an average margin of 24.4 pts and 3 games finishing with 30+ spreads.

Their most recent matchup earlier this season ended in a 56-18 for the Storm at AAMI Park.

The Game Total has gone Over in 3 of the last 5 with Parra only covering once during the streak.

Parramatta Eels Form Analysis

Parramatta found a stroke of form last weekend to lift themselves temporarily out of the race for the wooden spoon.

A dominant display in a 22-20 win against the Broncos saw Zac Lomax score two tries and the returning Mitch Moses kick for almost 700 metres to go with his two Try Assists. The Eels restricted their opponent to just 8 tackles Inside 20m with the Broncos never getting a good enough roll on through the game.

With Moses back at the helm there are definitely bright spots on the horizon for the Eels but fans will need to wait another year to see September footy.

Melbourne Storm Form Analysis

The Storm were pushed to the limit last Thursday by the Roosters eventually winning 34-30 thanks to a 73rd minute try to Stefano Utoikamanu.

Already without Cam Munster, Melbourne lost Jahrome Hughes to a dislocated shoulder midway through the match forcing a reshuffle in the halves. It didn’t deter them though as they fought tooth and nail, completing 33 of 36 sets to outlast their opponent.

Melbourne are currently 3rd on the ladder and despite missing 37 Tackles against the Roosters, still top the rankings on the season with fewest missed tackles of any team in the league.

Melbourne Storm Team News

A couple of important additions to the Storm side now Jahrome Hughes will likely miss the remainder of the regular season. Ryan Papenhuyzen slots back in at fullback with Nick Meaney returning to his usual role at centre. Kane Bradley makes way.

Cam Munster is also back at five-eighth with Tyran Wishart moving to the vacant halfback role.

Jonah Pezet has been named on the bench while Trent Loiero has been given the week off, replaced in the starting side by Tui Kamikamica.
