Gold Coast Titans vs Penrith Panthers NRL Tips - Panthers to make it eight straight wins

In NRL Round 22, the Penrith Panthers are poised to extend their winning streak to eight games as they confront the Gold Coast Titans. Contributing factors like their robust defense, allowing only an average of 10 points per game in recent matches, significantly bolster their position. Despite the Titans' occasional flashes of brilliance, such as their recent win against the Warriors, inconsistencies remain a stumbling block. The Panthers' consistently better form, including player standout Dylan Edwards, makes them strong favorites to win, potentially by a margin exceeding 13 points.

What a turnaround it's been for the Panthers - they've won seven consecutive games to rise from rock bottom on the ladder to a current position of fifth, with a top four spot not completely out of the question if they maintain this run and the Warriors continue to struggle.

Penrith have won their last three straight by 20+ margins and their defence is back to its best - indeed, they've only leaked 70 points across those last seven victories, averaging 10 points conceded per game.

With those numbers in mind, no need to overthink this one. Backing the Panthers in for another 13+ victory and the Titans to go Under 16.5 total team points. Gold Coast may have beaten the Warriors last week (lets be honest, the Wahs are barely a top eight team without Luke Metcalf, let alone top four), but they are wildly inconsistent and I need to see way more before I can declare they're team capable of even remotely challenging an in-form and confident Panthers outfit.

Dylan Edwards has a great tryscoring record against the Titans and has scored three in his last two games, so back the Penrith fullback to continue his run of four-pointers on Saturday afternoon at Cbus Super Stadium.

  • Panthers have won their last seven games
  • Panthers have won their last three games by 20+ points
  • Titans have lost 13 of their 18 games this season
  • Panthers have won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the teams
  • Three of the Panthers' last four wins vs Titans have been by 13+ margins
  • Panthers have kept their opponents Under 16.5 team points in six of their last seven games
  • Titans have been kept to 14 points or less in their last six games vs Panthers
  • Panthers are averaging 10 points conceded per game in their last seven outings
  • Dylan Edwards has scored three tries in his last two games & has scored five in his last six appearances vs Titans

Head To Head

Penrith have unsurprisingly dominated this matchup in recent times, winning 10 of the last 11 encounters and keeping the Titans under 14 points in the last six. Their most-recent clash was close however, with the Panthers edging it 18-12 in Round 27 last season - although Nathan Cleary was missing from that game.

Gold Coast Titans Form Analysis

The enigmatic Titans reminded everyone of just how good they can be with a 24-16 victory over the Warriors across the ditch last week, with the left edge of Jojo Fifita and Phillip Sami combining for all of their tries, with both players scoring doubles.

It was a great performance from the Titans - however, the issue is that they lost 12 of their 14 previous games before it. Hence their second-last position on the ladder and the very real danger of picking up the wooden spoon.

Des Hasler's side have one of the best forward packs in the competition when they're all fit and firing, along with some speedy outside backs and the talented Jayden Campbell in the halves - but for whatever reason, they just can't find any consistency and this is a problem that has remained on the Gold Coast for the better part of the last decade.

Sam Verrills is back at hooker and replaces Chad Randall, who is out due to concussion, while Tom Weaver comes onto the bench for the suspended Sean Mullany.

Penrith Panthers Form Analysis

It goes to show just how dominant the Panthers have been over the last four seasons when they've managed to win their last seven games on the trot without really coming close to that sort of form.

Anchored to the bottom of the table after Round 12, the Panthers have navigated the Origin period and climbed 12 rungs on the ladder up to fifth spot heading into Round 22.

Defence has been the cornerstone of Penrith's four-year dynasty and they've got back to their best in that regard, leaking just 26 points across their last four games and only 10 per game over their current seven-game winning run.

The Panthers were relentless in last week's 36-2 demolition of the hapless Tigers, with Dylan Edwards going ballistic with 28 hit ups for a staggering 322 metres, along with crossing for a try.

Penrith Panthers Team News

No changes to the 17 that crushed the Tigers last week, with Liam Martin has been named to start and Isaiah Papali'i dropping to the bench the only switch.

Verdict

The Panthers are locked in with seven straight wins and I'm backing them in for another 13+ victory over the Titans, keeping their opponents Under 16.5 total team points.

Dylan Edwards is on fire and tipped to cross for another meat pie against Gold Coast.
