Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs, Round 22 2025 - Expert Prediction

The Broncos will overcome their hiccup from last week and will hand their former iconic coach Wayne Bennet his longest losing streak in his coaching career when Brisbane cover as 16.5-point favourites on Friday night.

Broncos vs Rabbitohs NRL Rd22 Cheat Sheet

Brisbane will bounce back from their loss to the Eels last week and take advantage of the tattered state of the Bunnies who look like the whole pack of greyhounds

captured the mechanical hare at Dapto.

The Rabbits season is in tatters and there is nothing that the master coach can do about. They put up a good fight against the Sharks last week but with the Broncos looking to prove their doubters wrong this week South Sydney will be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I expect the attack of Brisbane to fire and score over 32.5 points, bringing in Selwyn Cobbo and Deine Mariner to regain their flair in the backline. With no Jack Wighton and Tevita Tatola the Rabbits will struggle to move the ball down the field, even more so than usual that is, and the Broncs will run away with this one.

Billy Walters is on a three-game try scoring streak and with great odds needs to be backed for a fourth.

3 of the last 4 South Sydney losses have been by over the 16.5-point margin in this match.

Head to Head

The Rabitohs have won the last 2 against Brisbane, including a 22-14 victory in the wet back in Round 9 this season.

The Rabbitohs even hold a 6-4 lead in the head-to-head battle in their last 10 clashes.

Brisbane Broncos Form Analysis

Not quite sure what happened to the Brisbane Broncos last week, going down to Wooden Spoon contenders the Parramatta Eels 20-22 at Suncorp.

The stats did not look good for the Broncos, losing the field position and possession battle to the Eels and getting exploited by the outside backs of Parramatta. I am going to put it down to poor preparation (which shouldn’t happen), However, it will be fixed this week.

Brisbane were flying with 5 straight victories before their loss to Parra, averaging 30 points per game. They lead the league in linebreaks created (5.9/G) and looked like being a real contender.

Although, as we saw against the Eels, Brisbane do have some chinks in the armour. Ranked 13th in opposition tackles inside their 20m (32.1/G) and are also ranked 9th in the NRL, conceding 21.6 points per game this season.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

Michael Maguire has swung the axe dropping Jesse Arthurs and Josiah Karapani from the side, replacing his wingers with Selwyn Cobbo and Deine Mariner.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form Analysis

It is going from bad to worse for the Rabbitohs and coach Wayne Bennett who is facing his longest ever losing streak of his coaching career if the Bunnies go down to Brisbane. Currently eight straight defeats for the Rabbits has them now at the bottom of the ladder and the ninth looks like a sure thing.

Injuries and suspensions have tainted the Rabbitohs season and with Jack Wighton suspended this week for four matches and Tevita Tatola also out indefinitely, the Bunnies are not looking like improving.

They are ranked last in the NRL in run metres, linebreaks and territory while being ranked 15th in opposition linebreaks and opposition tackles inside 20m. Coming up against Brisbane this week along with new decisive line combinations, the Rabbitohs are in trouble.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Team News

Jack Wighton has been handed a 4 week suspension for his shoulder charge on Toby Rudolf last week and will return in the Rabbitohs final match of the season.

Tevita Tatola will also likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder last weekend.

Jamie Humphries and Lewis Dod will now be the halves partners for the Bunnies. Jai Arrow will move into prop with Jacob Host moving into the second row, while Thomas Fletcher will come onto the interchange bench.

Bayleigh Bentley-Hape will replace Tyrone Munro in an unforced change from Wayne Bennet.
