Sea Eagles vs Roosters NRL Rd22 Cheat Sheet

This is the definition of a 'Pick Em' game - and I'm picking Manly at Brookie.

Yes, they were absolutely obliterated by the Dogs last week, but they had won three straight before that clash, including taking the scalp of the Storm in Melbourne - probably the toughest road trip in the NRL.

The Sea Eagles have also won six of their nine games at 4 Pines Park this season, so backing the hosts to bounce back from last week and keep themselves in finals contention. The Roosters have lost three of their last four and stumbled when it mattered most last week, failing to put away a Storm side who were there for the taking after Jahome Hughes went off injured. The Chooks continue to be an ill-disciplined and wasteful side and I don't think they make the finals from here.

The Unders have been trending in Manly matches for the bulk of the season, so taking the Under 48.5 line at Dabble (it's 45.5 at most other bookies), while Tolu Koula is a tryscoring freak at Brookvale and can continue his excellent record on Saturday night.

The Roosters have won five of the last seven meetings between the sides, but Manly have prevailed in three of the last four on the Northern Beaches. The Roosters were victorious in both 2024 meetings in high-scoring affairs, registering 34-30 and 40-16 wins.

Manly Sea Eagles Form Analysis

Manly's form wildly fluctuating from week to week is nothing new and we've had the perfect example of this over the last fortnight.

Only the Sea Eagles could go from beating the Storm in Melbourne to losing against the Bulldogs by 38 points within seven days. Remember, this was a Canterbury attack that had struggled to put points on the likes of the Cowboys and Dragons in recent weeks - and the Sea Eagles leaked 42 against them.

There's seemingly always some sort of drama behind the scenes at Manly and the pressure has ramped up on coach Anthony Seibold again this week. There's also the sub-plot of Daly Cherry-Evans playing against the team he's almost certainly signed with for next season here. Is the Tom Trbojevic centre experiment working? Not really.

Sydney Roosters Form Analysis

It was always going to be tough for the Roosters to bounce back from losing four of their five opening games, including leaking 50 points to the Broncos in Round 1.

To be fair, the Roosters have battled hard to force their way into the top eight amid lots of injuries, but it most likely won't be enough.

Sam Walker has been solid since returning to the side, but he probably needed to come back a couple of months earlier if the Roosters were to be a threat in this year's competition. Now, Walker gets to prove himself against a man that potentially takes his No. 7 jersey next year in DCE.

The Roosters have had the opportunity to entrench themselves in the top eight in recent weeks, but close defeats to the Tigers, Storm and fellow finals contenders Cronulla have left them in 10th spot on the ladder.
