Taree Tips May 12
Best Bet
Race 3 No. 3 Still Rising
The three-year-old demonstrated plenty of ability last prep, including when recording two third-place finishes.
Those efforts included a defeat by just over one-and-a-half lengths in a Class 1 & Maiden Plate event over 1600m at this venue in January.
Still Rising jumped as a $15 chance on a Soft 6 track that day and the runner-up subsequently won a similar event two starts later.
The gelding was stepped up to 1850m at Newcastle next time out and, after jumping at big odds, showed up well before fading late.
A wide barrier worked against him there and, with a better draw in an easier race here, Denim Wynen’s representative is taken to provide jockey Mollie Fitzgerald with a winner.
Next Best
Race 5 No. 3 Decisive Lass
There is plenty to like about Decisive Lass, who has contested Benchmark 82 company in her past two starts.
The best of those efforts came when the mare was narrowly beaten in a 1075m event at Grafton on her penultimate outing.
The six-year-old could finish only seventh over 100m further at the same track last time, although her best form has generally come over shorter trips.
The return to 1007m suits here and the drop back to Benchmark 74 company also looks favourable.
While untested on Heavy ground, three of her four victories have come on wet tracks and, from barrier six, Decisive Lass looks capable of winning for trainer Gary Neilsen.
Market Mover
Race 4 No. 7 Prince Is Game
Anna Roper has ridden her share of winners here this season and her mount Prince Is Game has attracted support from punters in the fourth race.
The gelding has performed well in both starts this prep, including when beaten just over a length in a 1614m Benchmark 66 event on his penultimate outing.
Matthew Robinson’s four-year-old opened at $4 with Unibet Australia and has since tightened into a $2.70 quote.
Stats Say
Jockey Ashley Morgan boasts a 45.5% strike-rate (10/22) at this venue this season and both of his rides feature prominently in betting.
Adam Duggan’s Zousain gelding Cool Zousain has won both trials to date and is set to make his debut in the opening event.
The three-year-old draws an inside barrier and profiles as a strong winning chance on debut.
Punters must wait until the sixth race for Morgan’s second ride, with Cool Zousain’s stablemate Showtime Shadow contesting a 1412m Benchmark 62 handicap.
The gelding finished fourth in a Class 1 over 1500m at Newcastle last month and resumes from a freshen-up in search of his second career victory.
