Rosehill Tips April 1

Race 1 - 12:30PM Midway Handicap Tips (1300m)

Best: 7. Glounthaune. He's going well for the new yard, with two good trials for Greg Hickman before running the fastest last 600m of the February 26 card.

Glounthaune followed that fresh effort up with an unlucky Midway attempt on March 15, where the gelding was in restricted room over the last 100m.

Up to 1300m looks ideal for the six-year-old and with a few more favours in transit this time around, he's one of the main chances in an open race.

Value: 5. Apollo Mission. Another galloper who shouldn't be far away third-up is Apollo Mission, although he does have a tricky draw to overcome.

First-up, he ran the second-fastest last 200m of a Canterbury BM72 before stepping to 1400m when contesting a Provincial Qualifier at Kembla Grange.

Down slightly trip and a short turnaround from a fast-run race is often a good recipe, while he was $6 in what was arguably a stronger Midway in October.

Race 2 - 1:05PM Rosehill Bowling Club Baillieu Tips (1400m)

Best: 5. Tupakara. Linebacker and Broadsiding (subsequent Group 1 winners) were among the multiple stakes winners who contested last year's Baillieu.

I liked Tupakara's work ahead of her Gimcrack debut, where she worked home in restricted room and the filly was then spelled after a plain Golden Gift run.

She's still building, with one trial ahead of a third in the Reisling Stakes and Marhoona and Tempted ran the quinella (first and third in the Golden Slipper).
Value: 10. Savvy Hallie. This Brad Widdup-trained filly also arrives from the Reisling Stakes and she was set a huge task there when settling back from a wide draw.

Her late work was still strong and the daughter of Hellbent covered ground prior to that on debut, with that race won by King Of Pop (Black Opal winner).

Savvy Hallie is a long striding youngster who should appreciate the rise to 1400m and from a kinder draw this time around, she can settle closer.

Race 3 - 1:40PM Toyota Forklifts Tulloch Stakes Tips (2000m)

Best: 4. King Of Thunder. The wide barrier is the main knock third-up, as he may be forced to spot his rivals a bigger start in Tuesday's third-up assignment.

King Of Thunder does look the form runner of this field, as he defeated older rivals last time out and he was 1400m to 1900m in that second-up attempt.

While it's seven days out, the Tulloch Stakes is one of the main Australian Derby lead-up's (four horses completed the winning double from 2017-2020).

Value: 13. Hardpoint. He's still doing a fair bit wrong in his races and despite that, Hardpoint hasn't finished out of the money in five starts to date.

As a strong one-pacer, he could relish 2000m and from gate nine, he can push forward with a few drawn to his outside (Format and Perfect Justice).

He's worked well on wet tracks and his only win came on a Soft 5, while Hardpoint could be there whacking away late if this is a testing ten furlongs.

Race 4 - 2:15PM Precise Air Neville Sellwood Stakes Tips (2000m)

Best: 1. Ceolwulf. Joe Pride is one the best in the business, especially when backing one up, although the gap has been extended with this being a rescheduled card frorm Saturday.

The plan is to have Ceolwulf peaking for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and after a little setback, his George Ryder Stakes run suggests that he's back on track.

A strong tempo in a Queen Elizabeth and a bigger Randwick circuit will his ideal set-up, but Ceolwulf should still prove too classy for this lot.

Value: 14. Our Gold Hope. I feel she's going well enough to be pinching a handy race soon enough and now hard-fit, Our Gold Hope gets out to 2000m.

Her better performances this prep were in slower-run races and in fast-run affair last time out in the Coolmore Classic, she lacked the class in that Group 1.

Our Gold Hope held form deep into her last prep, with Group 3 placing on heavy ground over this trip and she just missed in the Queensland Oaks.

Race 5 - 2:50PM Cincotta Chemist Emancipation Stakes Tips (1500m)

Best: 9. Arctic Glamour. Any of these could bob up without surprising, especially if it's wet and it's quite a strong lineup for a fillies and mares Group 2.

With 1500m being near her limit, this looks an autumn target for Arctic Glamour and she could treat this as the first-up run (held-up on March 8).

She should've beaten Schwarz (subsequent Group 1 winner) first-up lasst August and Arctic Glamour then contested some hot races over the spring.
Value: 2. Pulchritudinous. After a very slow start to 2025, the Waterhouse & Bott yard are starting to hit their straps (18 winners at 24% in March).

They prepare Pulchritudinous, who was spelled after one spring run and her only previous Australian start was a 1.5-length defeat in the Australasian Oaks.

The 2024 New Zealand Oaks winner has completed three solid trials ahead of this fresh tilt and all of her better form has come on rain affected tracks.

Race 6 - 3:25PM Vinery Stud Stakes Tips (2000m)

Best: 1. Treasurethe Moment. We may get a better price for Treasurethe Moment, who hasn't raced on anything worse than a Soft 5, although there's a chance of upgrades on the current Heavy 9 reading.

The conditions are the only query with this star filly, who has won her last six appearances and despite an impressive spring, she looks to have improved.

Class prevailed fresh before her Kewney Stakes victory and that race went more that 7.5-lengths faster than the Group 1 All-Star Mile (run on the same card).

Next Best: 7. Verona Rose. I'm not sure on the fillies who are coming out of the farcically run Phar Lap Stakes, with Declichy Boulevard a distance query and the others look a run short.

Verona Rose could easily be the pick of the New South Wales brigade and while she's already undefeated, this three-year-old can go to another level at 2000m.

Her trainer (Gary Portelli) declared her as an Australian Oaks contender after her brilliant last start Kembla Grange Classic win (second-fastest last 200m of the meeting).

Value: 9. Ella Hazel. She got the job done for us at Wyong last start, where the Richard Litt-trained filly proved too classy for a modest provincial field and it was the kill that she needed.

Ella Hazel arrived to that second-up tilt off a solid return in a hot maiden, with first and third both winning their next starts, while the runner-up just missed in a Group race.

She's by Dundeel and out of Maid Of Heaven, who won a Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes on testing ground, so conditions should suit on breeding.

Race 7 - 4:00PM Egroup Security Star Kingdom Stakes Tips (1200m)

Best: 15. General Salute. I've always had plenty of time for General Salute and after showing promise early, he never progressed as a late three-year-old.

He was off the scene for around 10 months, although his trial work was encouraging ahead of his Kembla Grange return, where he was stylish fresh winner.

The penny may have finally dropped with the talented four-year-old, who will get another fast speed to aim at and he could be the progressive horse in this field.

Value: 13. Espionage. His build-up has been okay in two Melbourne Group 1's following a long absence and Espionage returns to Sydney for his third-up tilt.

He had excuses in the Oakleigh Plate, where the three-year-old was exposed in a fast-run race and he was then a touch flat second-up in the Newmarket.

Espionage will only strip fitter from those outings and a testing 1200m in easier company could be what he's looking for (Heavy 9 winner third-up last prep).

Race 8 - 4:35PM Kia Tancred Stakes Tips (2400m)

Best: 2. Vauban. It's one of the more interesting Tancred Stakes that we've seen, where Dubai Honour clashes with the likes of Vauban, Arapaho and Duke De Sessa.

With an excellent Australian record, William Haggas has to be respected with Dubai Honour and his representative is two-from-two Down Under (both Group 1's).

The progression with Vauban will be a fascinating one second-up, as he should be more suited by the rise in distance here and he'll only strip fitter from the return.
Next Best: 4. Duke De Sessa. He'd burnt punters on multiple occasions prior to his Caulfield Cup victory, although Duke De Sessa had been building well ahead of that Group 1 attempt.

The six-year-old looks to have improved this prep, having returned with a 1600m triumph when giving weight to all rivals and he was then luckless second-up.

The likelihood of a wetter surface won't faze the Ciaron Maher-trained galloper and he has the tactical speed to enjoy a good run from a low draw.

Value: 9. Zechariah. We've been with Zechariah at big prices in both Australian outings and after racing a little too keenly first-up, he improved for a third-place finish last start.

The gelding was in restricted room key stages of the Randwick City Stakes and the form through that race was franked with Alalcance bolting in with her next start.

This is a much tougher assignment, now he's at Group 1 WFA level vs some classier opposition, but there's still improvement to come with Zechariah.

Race 9 - 5:15PM Racing And Sports Doncaster Prelude Tips (1500m)

Best: 6. New Endeavour. It looked a bizarre ride first-up in the Ajax Stakes, as Rachel King was giving up ground throughout the race and lost many lengths.

In Rachel King's defence, New Endeavour was keen and she had to get him settled, while she also had to search for a path away from the inside (inferior ground)

New Endeavour didn't get clear until the 150m and even then, he was in restricted room, but it was hard to miss his late work (fastest last 200m of the race).

Value: 15. Glint Of Silver. He's been building quite well in two runs back following 15-month absence and Glint Of Silver is down in the weights for this class rise.

The five-year-old wasn't beaten far in a muddling affair fresh, while the fast-run second-up event should bring him on further for this 1500m attempt.

After scratchings, Glint Of Silver has moved into barrier five here and with weight relief off most of the main contenders, he has some claims in an open race.

Race 10 - 5:55PM Hkjc World Pool Handicap Tips (1400m)

Best: 1. Zouatica. Zouatica could be a late market firmer if the track is testing (three-from-three on Heavy ground) and he's here second-up off a brave return triumph.

He was still kicking late in the National Sprint despite covering ground and while this is a sharp weight rise, he's carried similar imposts to victory.

Zouatica draws out again, but there's a chance of following Kibou across early and late in the day, he could be finding the best ground if the inside chops up.
Value: 9. Rhapsody Chic. This five-year-old comes right into calculations on a wet surface, as Rhapsody Chic is a mudlark (unbeaten on heavy tracks).

He can also produce fresh on rain affected ground, with a debut win on a Heavy 10 and the son of Sacred Falls opened his last prep with a Soft 7 success.

Rhapsody Chic quickly worked through the grades last time in (both Sydney wins on heavy ground) and he'll need the wider lanes to be in play here.
