Doomben Roughie - Race 4 No. 2 Hang Five
The five-year-old has made three starts this prep with his best effort coming when beaten just over two lengths in a 1200m Class 5 handicap at Ipswich on his return to action.
The son of Astern raced on a soft 6 track that day and he has faded when racing over 1400m on good ground at Eagle Farm on both subsequent starts.
The pick jumped at $41 when started awkwardly prior to beating just one rival home in a Benchmark 78 handicap two weeks ago on his most recent start.
The return to a forecast wet track is a positive for Matthew Hoysted’s gelding who is the winner of his only previous start on the heavy going expected.
The selection has shown a liking for this venue in the past placing third over track and trip on his only previous start at this venue.
Apprentice Cody Collis takes a valuable two-kilogram’s off the gelding’s back and the pair may prove capable of springing a surprise.
BRC Membership No Metro Wins Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Tony Georgieff’s representative ticks plenty of boxes and he has performed well at this venue this campaign finishing runner-up in two of his three starts here.
The first of those efforts saw him lose out by a narrow margin in an 1110m Benchmark 68 handicap here in November with the gelding going on to make amends with an Ipswich win next time.
The selection was given a short break following a second in a Class 3 set weights event over this distance at Eagle Farm resuming with a fifth over 1110m here last month.
Ryan Maloney, on board for his first three efforts this prep returned to the saddle with the pair beaten a length over course and distance in a Class 3 handicap recently.
While all five of the four-year-old’s efforts this time around have come on a sound surface he boasts a strong record in wet conditions including when winning on a heavy 8 at Ipswich last July.
Barrier eight shouldn’t pose an issue and he looks up to recording the fourth win of his career.

The son of Santos showed good form in 2024 registering three wins from six starts with two of those victories coming at this venue.
The first of those course triumphs saw the gelding deliver a victory by over a length when contesting a 1615m Benchmark 70 handicap held on a soft 5 track in August.
The selection duly followed up when stepped up to Benchmark 78 handicap level when racing on a good 3 track in a Benchmark 78 handicap here two weeks later.
Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald’s representative was spelled following that effort and having failed to shine in a barrier trial here last month resumed with a sixth at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.
The gelding was beaten just over three lengths into sixth in a 1400m Benchmark 78 handicap that day and the extra distance he gets here is in his favour.
While untested on the forecast heavy 8 ground the pick boasts a good record on soft surfaces and with improvement expected second up he is taken to return to return to winning ways.

The six-year-old was beaten less than two lengths when delivering a sixth-place finish in a 1200m Benchmark 85 handicap at this venue on his return to action last month.
The gelding has shown improvement since registering back-to-back placed efforts including when runner-up in a 1200m Benchmark 78 handicap here two weeks later.
The selection was beaten less than a length when racing on a good 4 track that day and encountered similar underfoot conditions when third over the same distance at Eagle Farm earlier this month.
Gillian Heinrich’s representative returned to Benchmark 85 company when beaten a length last time out and the switch to a wet track is no issues in this contest.
The pick has shown good early speed in the past and that is a positive jumping from barrier six on his first attempt at this distance.
The Maurice gelding gets in off a low weight here and with Angel Jones up he looks value to record the sixth win of his career.
