Best Bet:
Race 3 No. 4 Muirfield
The New Zealand-bred gelding fetched NZ$30,000 when led through the ring at the Karaka Book 2 sale in 2023.
The son of Proisir made a couple of appearances in Cranbourne jumpout events prior to making his debut last month.
The gelding took a step forward in the second of those jumpout efforts placing third while he finished one position better in his official race day over 1200m here just over two weeks ago.
The three-year-old raced from the rear of mid-division prior to losing out by a head when runner-up on a good 4 track in that debut effort.
Grahame Begg’s representative is expected to have improved for that experience while he encounters similar underfoot conditions, a good 4 for this event.
Barrier five is a positive here and with Jordan Childs up for the first time the gelding is taken to record his first win.
Value Bet:
Race 4 No. 1 The Cunning Fox
The six-year-old won four times last year with his sole flat success coming over 1728m in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Sale in May.
The gelding went on to place third in a 2250m Benchmark 78 handicap on Morphettville’s Parks course the following month.
The selection’s final three wins all came over hurdles including when taking out a 3250m set weights event held on a soft 7 track at Ballarat in August.
While the son of Reliable Man has yet to hit top form this prep he has been competing in metro events including when eighth of eleven over 2400m at Sandown last month.
Trained by Patrick & Michelle Payne the pick contested a Benchmark 64 handicap that day and the drop to a country meeting is in his favour.
The good 4 track expected shouldn’t pose an issue and Tom Prebble’s mount looks value to record his first win of the year.
Market Mover:
Race 6 No. 4 Trustfall
Billy Egan’s mount Trustfall has attracted support in the penultimate race on the card.
The four-year-old has been off the track since finishing tenth at Morphettville in September but had shown good form prior including when winning over 1100m at Horsham.
The gelding is set to wear a lugging bit for the first time and he's been supported in from over $4.80 when markets opened with Neds (now $3.30).
Stats Say:
Jockey Jordyn Weatherley boasts a 33% strike-rate at this venue this season and she has two rides on the card.
Steely Hustler in the fifth race of the day looks the pick of her mounts with the filly having won twice from three starts at this venue.
The four-year-old won over 1300m in a Restricted 58 handicap and arrives here in good form for her first attempt at this distance.
Weatherley is set to ride Jamie Edwards filly in a Benchmark 64 handicap while she also partners Stylish Enuff who is expected to jump at big odds for the finale.
