Pakenham Value Bet - Race 3 No. 6 Billund

The Hawkesbury resumption on February 19 was a pass mark, where Billund found the 1000m a little too sharp, and Team Hawkes now send the three-year-old south, with the rise to 1200m suiting second-up.

The debut effort at Newcastle early in the season was good, albeit well held over 900m in a race dominated by Savvy Hallie, who is now a dual Group 2 winner.

He then saluted second-up over this distance when taking out a Wyong maiden.

While it was only a narrow win, the form has worked out well, with both Sanctified and Rajwa providing metro references from that race.

Reflect also franked the Wyong form by winning a Super Maiden at her next start before recording a fifth-place finish at Group 1 level, and this isn’t a strong race.

Symal Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Pakenham Roughie - Race 5 No. 2 Falcon Of Malta

After winning the second of his summer jump-outs, the son of Fiorente resumed with a fourth-of-nine finish at Caulfield on January 31, where he stuck on gamely in a fast-run race.

While a run short there second-up, it was better than the result reads, with a big weight in BM74 company.

It was another fast-run event that was set up for the swoopers, and he will strip fitter with that mile run under the belt.

He now gets a nice drop in grade and less weight after the three-kilo claim from Dakotah Keane, while blinkers replace the winkers here.

Falcon Of Malta is capable of better, and a sharp improvement third-up would not shock.

Manhari Torney Night Cup Tips (Race 6)

Pakenham Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Steel Run

Steel Run caught the eye in a good form race via his Caulfield return on January 24.

When stepping up to 2500m at Flemington second-up, fitness only just gave out late in a race taken out by the multiple stakes winner Berkeley Square.

The five-year-old should only improve off that effort with the distance run under the belt, and now two outings completed since a decent spell.

He also gets a big weight swing on Garachico from that February 14 clash, a galloper he finished only half a length behind.

In that same event, Steel Run got the better of Saint George, who had won his previous two starts and had also just missed to a subsequent Group 1 winner last spring, so he looks awfully hard to beat here if there is any improvement third-up.

Ladbrokes Popular SRM Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Pakenham Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 12 Damehood

Ciaron Maher-trained gallopers often improve as a campaign wears on, and the last 12 months is evidence of that.

His third-up strike rate rises to 17% from an 11% second-up winning record, with his representatives often furnishing once they have built a fitness base.

That could be the case with Damehood, who arrives third-up after being respected in the market for a Metro BM74 fresh.

She was completely unsuited in that first-up assignment and then produced a chasing second over six furlongs here last time out.

The mare appears suited getting to 1400m, and while this is technically a rising grade, it also isn't a vintage BM70, and she also drops sharply in the weights with 4kg less to carry from her last outing.
