Gosford Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Hidden News
Kim Waugh has maintained a consistent record at Gosford over the past 12 months, producing five winners and another five placegetters from 23 starters for a return on investment exceeding 29%, while the Wyong trainer also knows the family of Hidden News particularly well.
The three-year-old is the first foal of Great News, a useful mare from the Wonderful News family that Waugh has enjoyed considerable success with, and he brings a solid grounding into Thursday's assignment after two encouraging performances to begin his career.
A 900m sprint at Newcastle on September 19 proved too sharp on debut, with Hidden News struggling to find a comfortable rhythm before making late ground into fourth, but the rise to 1300m at the same venue on October 6 brought significant improvement when he finished runner-up to River Jordan.
The son of Stay Inside was held up at a crucial stage in the straight before finishing within a length of the winner, and although that was not an especially strong provincial maiden, Thursday's opposition looks manageable, with two prominent debutants bringing only moderate trial form and Ready Made Heir relying largely on country performances despite having proved competitive at provincial level.
Keagan Latham takes the ride and has been Waugh's most successful jockey over the past year with seven winners at a 20% strike rate, and with Hidden News drawn favourably in barrier two and expected to improve further at his third career appearance, he looks well placed to break his maiden.

Gosford Value Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Scoish Maloish
Thursday's Class 1 and Maiden Plate looks a more suitable assignment for Scoish Maloish than the provincial maiden he contested at Hawkesbury on October 8, with the Marc Conners-trained gelding finishing fourth over 1800m after settling outside the leader.
The son of Anders hit a significant flat spot before the turn and lacked the acceleration of the first three home, but he fought on to finish within three-quarters of a length of winner My Cartouche, with Van Hoven and Lord Wootton filling the minor placings and providing further depth to the form.
That performance came second-up and was perhaps the bridging run needed before attacking these longer journeys, with 2030m a logical progression given his efforts over shorter trips during the early stages of his career and the improvement he displayed through late autumn and winter.
His most encouraging performance during that earlier campaign came third-up at Gosford on June 11, when runner-up in a strong 1600m maiden won by stablemate Jonson, who subsequently won again, while third placegetter Ruskana followed that effort with consecutive runner-up finishes.
Jess Taylor retains the ride after making a positive move to settle Scoish Maloish prominently at Hawkesbury, and although a wider draw requires some early work, similar tactics could give the gelding every opportunity to improve third-up at each-way odds in a race that lacks a standout.

Gosford Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Speedy Henry
In a very thin race, it would be somewhat surprising if the winner came from outside the top two in the market, with Peleus and Speedy Henry standing out among the leading chances, the former arriving off a first-up victory at Kembla Grange and the latter appealing at the more attractive price.
Rodney Northam's Speedy Henry has won two of his three previous first-up appearances and brings strong form into Thursday's return, including a runner-up finish at Gosford on April 2 when forced to settle well back from a wide draw before chasing home Just Response.
That winner subsequently won in stronger company at Newcastle before being competitive twice on the Saturday metropolitan circuit, while Speedy Henry also went within a narrow margin of beating the handy Lord Remlap in a Randwick Kensington Highway on April 27.
There was further encouragement in Speedy Henry's October 7 barrier trial at Scone, where the son of Hellbent worked every bit as well as Night Agent, a race-fit performer who had bolted in with a Saturday metropolitan BM78 on September 19 and also had excuses in the Silver Eagle.
Speedy Henry has often been ridden negatively in previous outings, but there was clear intent to jump and settle handy in his recent trial, giving Reece Jones the opportunity to make use of a low draw, while the jockey's six winners for the Rodney Northam stable this season have produced a positive ROI of 38.6%.
