Ipswich Tips October 22
TAB Class 4 Handicap Tips (Race 1)
Ipswich Best Bet - Race 1 No. 3 Herald Angel
Herald Angel has been in excellent form this preparation, finishing in the first three in five of her six appearances since resuming with a runner-up effort at Murwillumbah in June.
The Matthew Dunn-trained mare has won two of her past three starts, most recently scoring in a Class 2 handicap at Grafton late last month when prevailing by just under half a length on a Soft surface.
That victory came over 1610m, with the rise in distance appearing to suit the five-year-old, while her consistent recent performances suggest she is capable of handling the step into Class 4 company.
Although well beaten on her only previous appearance at Ipswich, the forecast rain-affected conditions should work in her favour, and an inside barrier gives her every opportunity to secure an economical passage.
Andrew Mallyon retains the ride after partnering Herald Angel to her latest victory, and with favourable conditions, a good draw and strong recent form, the mare looks well placed to open Thursday's meeting with another success.

Ipswich Favourite - Race 2 No. 2 Defiant Code
Defiant Code showed encouraging signs in his second barrier trial, finishing third over 1000m at Doomben last month before making his race-day debut at the same venue eight days later.
The Chris Anderson-trained gelding was ridden patiently on that occasion and had to be switched towards the centre of the track before finishing strongly into sixth in an 11-runner maiden on Good ground.
Despite finishing outside the placings, the son of Encryption was beaten less than one-and-a-half lengths, suggesting there was considerable merit in the performance, particularly given his inexperience and interrupted passage.
The form has already received a boost, with the runner-up subsequently winning at Eagle Farm last week, while Defiant Code should benefit from that initial race-day experience and barrier eight presents no significant concerns.
His pedigree also offers encouragement regarding the forecast testing conditions, with several close relatives having performed well on wet ground, and the gelding looks capable of providing Anderson with a breakthrough victory at his second attempt.

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 5 No. 8 Brumal
Brumal is the only three-year-old in Thursday's Class 1 field and has already demonstrated an affinity for Ipswich, having broken his maiden on debut at the venue in March.
The son of Frosted returned to the same course and distance last week and produced another encouraging performance, finishing third in a Benchmark 62 handicap when beaten just one-and-a-half lengths.
Both of those efforts came on Good ground, leaving some uncertainty about his ability to handle the forecast Heavy conditions, although his two previous appearances on rain-affected surfaces were in stronger metropolitan company at Eagle Farm.
Those defeats may therefore be worth forgiving, particularly with the lightly raced gelding returning to a venue where he has produced his strongest performances and facing opposition more closely aligned with his current level.
Still open to improvement at just his sixth career appearance, Brumal has a favourable draw in barrier six and the booking of Ben Thompson is another positive, making him an interesting outsider capable of surprising more fancied rivals.

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 2 All About Artie
All About Artie produced his strongest performance from six appearances this preparation when winning a Benchmark 60 handicap at the Gold Coast earlier this month.
The six-year-old overcame an awkward beginning to work forward and lead throughout over 1800m, eventually prevailing by just over half a length in a determined display.
Although dropping back in distance for Thursday's assignment, the son of Flying Artie has performed well over shorter trips previously, while his latest victory should provide a useful confidence boost as he looks to build on that success.
Rain-affected conditions are another positive, with All About Artie having demonstrated his ability on wet ground in the past, while previous winning form at Ipswich and a favourable draw close to the rail should help him secure an economical run.
Jasper Franklin retains the ride after partnering the gelding at the Gold Coast, and with fitness, conditions and track experience all in his favour, All About Artie looks capable of registering the third victory of his career.
