While unable to figure on last Friday's Ballarat program as a well-backed favourite, Il Patrigno was set a really big task in that April 3 event.

Although defeated, the four-year-old still got home well without threatening.

He remains maiden ineligible despite contesting this Class 3 at set weights.

However, this is effectively a Class 1 and maiden-standard race going off the acceptors.

Off his narrow Sandown defeat two starts back, when close up among many fancied rivals including the favourite Dirty Look, he has to have some claims at a big each-way price.

Caulfield Value Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Soft Love

The first-up effort at Cranbourne was plain when resuming in a stakes race, although Soft Love was unsuited by the race shape of that February 27 event.

Second-up back at Caulfield, blinkers went on and a sharper finish was produced.

The daughter of Pierata recorded the fastest closing sectionals of the entire March 14 meeting.

She has never finished outside of the placings in three Caulfield attempts, including a stylish victory over this track and distance last year.

Down in the weights with just 51.5kg after the claim, Soft Love looks dangerous here in a small field against her own sex.

Caulfield Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Arabian Prince

It was a frustrating spring for connections of Arabian Prince, with the colt unable to secure a Victoria Derby slot despite some very encouraging lead-up performances in key form races.

He instead dropped back in distance to 1800m when rounding out that preparation.

A line can be put through his March 14 resumption here when racing in what was effectively quicksand on the inside.

The rise in distance and drop back to maiden company saw him get a much-needed breakthrough at Kilmore last time.

From a stable with a strong record in this race, Arabian Prince looks ready to go on with it, with 2400m to suit third-up in a race that lacks depth.

Caulfield Best Bet - Race 9 No. 6 Oliveanotherday

He was enormous on debut at Warracknabeal when coming from back in the field and monstering the line for a narrow defeat.

That effort was well noted, hence his odds-on quote next time at Geelong when justifying the short price with an easy breakthrough.

He was then spelled after what was just an even performance to round out his first prep and may have just been looking for the paddock.

He has come on nicely this time in when making very light work of a BM70 field first-up at Ballarat, a race that had some quality.

Despite a sharp rise in the weights second-up on the Caulfield Heath track, he again delivered his rivals another galloping lesson, and while this is harder in Saturday company, he looks at least a stakes-class galloper.

Caulfield Next Best Bet - Race 10 No. 14 Trapdoor

A big, strong son of Brutal from the Team Hawkes stable, Trapdoor impressed via a dominant Geelong maiden victory on August 8.

He then covered ground in an unlucky Sandown runner-up finish before a spell.

His 2026 campaign opened with a runner-up finish behind Enamorada, a rival who had a softer run in transit in that 1300m event, and the form through that winner reads well enough for this grade.

Despite covering ground, the three-year-old recorded a cruisy one-and-a-half length triumph over seven furlongs last time on the Lakeside circuit.

The step up to a mile is unlikely to trouble him, and he looks a type who can work through these lower grades quickly enough over the coming months.
