It’s a quality meeting with several in-form Sydney stables represented and a few lightly raced runners ready to build on promising early campaigns. The card offers solid depth across most events, ensuring genuine betting interest throughout the program.

Canterbury Tips November 14

Ooshman Plate Tips (Race 1)

Canterbury Favourite - Race 1 No. 3 Matias

He showed some encouraging signs in two runs last prep, which included a debut fifth as favourite at Canterbury in a fast-run race won by State Visit, who was Group placed at his next two starts.

Matias was gelded ahead of his October 29 return, which was an honest chasing effort in second, and he was no match for Long Legs, but that winner looks smart and is in the market for a Group 3 on Saturday.

The son of Snitzel also finished around some useful types in that fresh assignment, and the extra 150m second-up in a maiden with less depth brings him right into contention for the opener.

He looks well placed to deliver on that early potential.

Piccolo Me Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Canterbury Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Written Scandal

This Peter Snowden-trained mare finds a modest race against her own sex and there were excuses second-up when tiring late off a wide run.

She spiked third-up last campaign when saluting, which followed a very plain second-up effort as a short-priced favourite, and she appears set to peak again here.

Via her spring resumption, Written Scandal lost a plate in the run and still recorded the fastest last 200m of a strong BM72 that’s produced three subsequent winners.

Written Scandal had no luck in her only previous Canterbury try, and a repeat of her September 19 performance would make her very hard to beat.

Super Nash Brothers Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Canterbury Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Jack Duggan

The grey went around at massive odds in the $500,000 Four Pillars, which he contested second-up, and should’ve finished closer after being badly held up in the straight before charging through once clear.

He was very consistent when campaigning between 1800m and 2400m last season and this is easier than what he was facing from January to April.

Canterbury’s middle-distance races can often prove tactical, but there isn’t much depth to this event and he looks well suited at the trip.

With even luck in running, Jack Duggan can be in the finish.

Metro Petroleum Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Canterbury Value Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Apex

Apex can be supported each-way in the final event of the program, a resuming four-year-old who arrives off two good trials, including a Rosehill heat win via his latest public hit-out.

He’s a consistent type with upside and has always come to hand early in a campaign, having never finished out of the money either first or second-up.

At his last return in April, Apex was a heavily backed odds-on favourite over this track and trip, finishing second behind Cassiel, who franked that form with a big Hawkesbury win and a Saturday BM78 placing.

He looks ready to go fresh and appeals as a value play to close the meeting.
