Doomben Tips June 24

Gallopers Sports Club Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)

Doomben Best Bet - Race 1 No. 4 Extreme Taste

Plenty of ability was evident in two starts earlier this preparation, with both efforts coming across town at Eagle Farm.

She was beaten less than half a length when finishing fourth on debut over 1000m in October, despite starting at long odds.

The mare worked home strongly that day and backed up the performance with a narrow second when stepping up to 1200m two weeks later.

Encountering a Soft 5 surface for the first time, the four-year-old was ridden with restraint before going down by only a small margin.

The front two finished four lengths clear of third on that occasion, while the fourth-placegetter won at Doomben next start, and after a recent trial placing at Deagon, Extreme Taste looks capable of breaking through.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Braveheart

Consistency has been a feature of this preparation, with the gelding finishing in the top three at five consecutive starts since resuming in March.

The breakthrough victory came at Ipswich third-up and he arrives here off a strong runner-up effort over 1200m at the same venue earlier this month.

Braveheart raced on speed that day before being beaten less than a length in a seven-runner Class 2 Plate.

Leah Martyn again takes the ride as he looks to go one better than when runner-up over this track and distance in April.

The Tony Gollan-trained galloper handles wet ground, draws favourably and looks well placed to record his first victory at Doomben.

Doomben Roughie - Race 6 No. 2 Man Of The Town

Proven Doomben form is a major asset here, having recorded a victory over 1640m on his only previous appearance at the track.

That success came in a Class 2 handicap on a Good track, where he scored by half a length.

The five-year-old has since added another win at Ipswich and rounded out his previous campaign with a fifth over 1825m at Eagle Farm in December.

While he drops back in trip for this assignment, he has placed over the distance previously.

A versatile galloper tactically, Man Of The Town resumes from a spell with Corey Sutherland aboard and appeals as an each-way chance, particularly if conditions improve.

Doomben Value Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Black Eyed Blonde

The stable switch to Kristie Clark-Peoples appears to be paying dividends, with the mare performing well in both starts for the new yard.

The first of those efforts resulted in a narrow victory over 1300m at Toowoomba last month.

Competing in a Benchmark 60, she overcame early interference and covered ground during the run before getting the job done.

Black Eyed Blonde then stepped up to Benchmark 65 level at the Sunshine Coast and again performed well when finishing third.

The daughter of Pierata shaped as though the rise in distance would suit and, with the runner-up from that race winning subsequently, she appeals as a value contender on her Doomben debut.
