Australia Women dominated New Zealand in their Cricket World Cup opener, with all-rounder Ash Gardner scoring a brilliant 115 to set up a convincing 89-run win. Sri Lanka, by contrast, suffered a 59-run loss to India, struggling with both bat and ball. Historically, Australia holds a massive edge, winning their last 10 ODIs against Sri Lanka. Australia comes into the clash as clear favorites, showcasing strong batting and bowling form, while Sri Lanka will need significant improvement to challenge the defending champions.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Women Preview & Tips

Australia Women laid down a marker in their opening Cricket World Cup match as they hammered New Zealand by 89 runs.

Sri Lanka Women were beaten by India in their first match of the competition as their campaign started with a 59 run loss.

  • The Aussies have won their last 10 against Sri Lanka in the 50 over game
  • Ash Gardner smashed 115 in her last outing for the Aussies

Head To Head

Australia have won their last 10 matches against Sri Lanka in the ODI format.

Australia Women Form

Australia Women were excellent in their opening Women's World Cup match as they shone with both bat and ball.

Ash Gardner's stunning 115 laid the foundation for Australia as they posted a very competitive 326. In reply, New Zealand could not get close to Australia as they were skittled for 237 in 43.2 overs. Sophie Devine's 112 gave New Zealand hope, but losing regular wickets cost them.

Australia look very strong with the bat, and their bowling lineup is taking wickets and keeping things tight. With 10 consecutive wins against Sri Lanka in the 50 over game, I back nothing over that another masterclass from the Aussies as Ash Gardner stars again.

Sri Lanka Women Form

Sri Lanka were not every quite good enough in their opening match against India as they slipped to a 59 run loss in a weather impacted game.

India battled to a score of 269/8 in their 47 overs, which always looked like it would be a tall order for Sri Lanka. In reply, Sri Lanka went from 82/1 to 211 all out as their batting order collapsed. Their inability to restrict India or take the bowling unit of their opponents to task will be a big worry heading into their clash with the Aussies.

Sri Lanka's need for a win does not convince me that they will get anywhere near their opponents. Australia are far better than Sri Lanka, and I believe this will show in their second outing.

Verdict

I am backing Ash Gardner to score 50+ runs as she stars in another Aussie win.
