Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League Expert Tips
The new-look Renegades will keep their strong record at GMHBA Stadium intact when they take down the reigning champs the Hurricanes on Sunday.
Tim Seifert was the hero in Melbourne’s opening match of BBL|15 becoming the first player this season to hit a century leading his team to victory over the Brisbane Heat. Veteran and new recruit Jason Behrendorff also did his part with the ball taking a couple of wickets as the ‘Gades defended their monster 212-run total.
Form is key and the Renegades will send Hobart back to the island with their second loss in 4 days in Melbourne after they fell to the Stars at the MCG on Thursday.
Both teams have a deep batting order so I am expecting another big match total at GMHBA Stadium, going over the 316.5 match runs total. Seifert will have another solid inning at bat for the ‘Gades going over his modest total of 21.5 while Behrendorff will claim a standard couple wickets keeping his 2-wicket average alive in BBL.
- Melbourne are 3-1-1 in the last 4 seasons at GMHBA Stadium.
- Tim Seifert scored 102 in his first innings of BBL|15
- Jason Behrendorff had 2 wickets in his first match for the Renegades
- The first match in BBL|15 at GMHBA Stadium had 410 total runs.
Tim Seifert scored the first century in just the second match of BBL|15 with the New Zealand wicketkeeper smashing 102 from 56 balls to lead the Renegades to a 14-run victory over the Brisbane Heat at GMHBA Stadium.
Seifert wasn’t the only ‘Gade to have a day with Oliver Peake also blasting 57 from 29 balls as Melbourne put up what was an unreachable total of 212/5.
With the pitch in Geelong being one for the batters, the Renegades bowlers still had work to do and the recruitment of Jason Behrendorff paid off early with the former Scorcher claiming 2 wickets for 34 runs, being outdone only by Will Sutherland who claimed 3 for 33. The paceman did enough to hold the run-rate of the Heat under 10 an over with Brisbane running out of balls at a total of 198.
The only team to have beaten the Hurricanes since the first match of BBL|14 was the Melbourne Stars in the final match of last season. Hobart couldn’t avenge that loss going down to the Stars once again in their second match of the BBL|15.
It was a horrid start for the ‘Canes, who were thrown in to bat, losing the two wickets of Mitch Owen Rehan Ahmed in the first 1.1 overs. The batting order never really recovered, protecting their wicket and never really seeing a run-rate over 8 per over. Ben McDermott was the only batter to put up any resistance with the QLD wicket keeper scoring 69 from 52 balls, while Tim David was the only other support with 31 runs.
The ‘Canes needed early wickets defending a soft total of 158 and didn’t get them, claiming their first wicket with 46 runs on the board, a little hope arose when Rishad Hossain took the wicket of Joe Clark 12 runs later, but that was all she wrote, with Marcus Stoinis unbeatable at the crease.
