GWS will cash in against an Essendon side that have been ravaged by injury in 2025.

The Giants dispatched 2nd ranked Geelong by 26 points last weekend, led by a career-best six-goal performance from emerging forward Aaron Cadman and are now 6-1 from their past seven matches.

They have built that record around elite defensive transition, sharp ball use, and midfield dominance. Key contributors like Tom Green, Finn Callaghan, Lachie Ash, and Lachie Whitfield are consistently winning the ball and creating scoring chains, while Jesse Hogan looms as a major threat up forward against a depleted Essendon defence.

The Bombers have averaged just 60 points per game, losing their past six matches. They managed only four goals in a dire showing against Richmond last week.

With a brutal injury toll, they will find it hard to stick with GWS in this match up. Zach Merrett remains a beacon of consistency and the 30+ looks within reach for the Bombers skipper. Take your pick from a number of Giants in player props, who will cover the line in this match.

  • Essendon are averaging just 60 points over their past five games and managed only four goals last week.
  • The Bombers copped more injuries last week and up to 14 players will be unavailable.
  • Jake Stringer booted four goals last weekend
  • Tom Green has averaged 32 disposals from his past four matches against Essendon. He had 34 disposals the last time the two sides met

Head to Head

Essendon were 20-point winners the last time these two sides met, which was back in Round 9 last season. They have won their past three against the Giants at the venue. GWS were 126 point winners in Sydney back in Round 23 of 2023. Jesse Hogan booted nine goals in that match.

Tom Green has averaged 32 disposals from his past four matches against Essendon. He had 34 disposals the last time the two sides met.

Essendon have lost their past six matches. They have been by an average margin of 35. Scoring has been a massive issue for the Bombers, who have averaged just 60 points per game in their past five matches. They could only manage four goals in the loss to the Tigers last weekend.

Archer May and Nate Caddy kicked one goal apiece against Richmond. May has kicked six in his past three matches. Peter Wright has kicked 2+ goals in four of his past seven.

Essendon rank 15th for inside 50s in the past five rounds, despite ranking 2nd the competition for disposals. Archie Roberts and Zach Merrett both had 30+ disposals last weekend. Merrett has had 71 disposals in his past two matches. Roberts has hit the 25+ in three of his past four.

Essendon Bombers Team News

It has been a disastrous 2025 campaign for Essendon on the injury front. Nic Martin and Will Setterfield are the latest casualties and up to 14 players are expected to be unavailable with most of those normally in their starting 23. Their young gun, Nate Caddy, is also in some doubt. Archie Perkins and Dylan Shiel are among those in the VFL that could come in to replace Martin and Setterfield.

GWS have won six of their past seven. Three of their past four have been against sides that could potentially finish top four with those coming against Gold Coast, Brisbane and Geelong last weekend, while they were 59 point winners against West Coast are fortnight ago.

They have won their past four away matches, including a 28-point win over Carlton at Marvel Stadium, the only time they have ventured to the venue this season.
