In a critical WTA Finals match, Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova are set for a high-stakes face-off in Riyadh. Swiatek comes with a solid 65-16 season record, though she faces inconsistencies in performance. Anisimova boasts a remarkable rise this season, highlighted by two Grand Slam finals and a top-four world ranking. Both players have had memorable encounters this year and are 1-1 in head-to-head meetings. Swiatek's resilience in avoiding back-to-back losses for four years makes her a favored contender. Expect an intense match with fewer than 21.5 games.

Winner takes all in the third meeting between Swiatek and Anisimova in 2025. Swiatek was looking like cruising into the semi-finals after winning her first three sets of the season-ending championships. However, the Pole was demolished 6-1 6-0 in the last two sets of her match against Elena Rybakina, meaning she now finds herself in this do or die scenario. Meanwhile, Anisimova - making her debut appearance at the WTA Finals - has experience the exact opposite, losing her first three sets of the tournament before coming back to defeat Madison Keys in her second match, keeping her semi-final hopes alive.

These two have met in some big matches already this season, with Swiatek famously double bageling Anisimova 6-0 6-0 in the Wimbledon final before the American gained revenge with a 6-4 6-3 victory at the US Open. I'm going to back Under 21.5 total games as the best bet for this encounter, while I feel Swiatek has the edge on current form and past experience at the WTA Finals, while she also hasn't lost back-to-back matches in four years, which is absolutely staggering.

Head To Head

As mentioned, locked at 1-1. Swiatek dominated their Wimbledon final before Anisimova got her revenge in New York.

Iga Swiatek Form

Swiatek comes into this clash with a 65-16 record on the season, winning more matches than anyone else on tour.

However, Swiatek has also suffered the most number of defeats (16) in a single season in her career at tour-level, which is a cause for concern.

The Pole went 13 months without winning a title before surging to her maiden Wimbledon crown, while she also picked up hardcourt titles over the last few months in Cincinnati and Seoul.

But, there's also been some worrying performances sprinkled in that period - notably being bageled by Emma Navarro in Beijing and suffering a 6-1 6-2 defeat to Jasmine Paolini in Wuhan.

It's been more Jekyll & Hyde displays from Swiatek in Riyadh - she crushed Madison Keys 6-1 6-2 in her opening match before fading poorly in a 6-3 1-6 0-6 defeat to Rybakina, meaning she's now tasked with a must-win clash here to make the semi-finals.

Amanda Anisimova Form

Anisimova has put together a 44-16 record on what has been a stellar season, rising into the world's top four and reaching two Grand Slam finals.

After beginning 2024 ranked outside the world's top 400, Anisimova has experienced a magical rise and is now one win away from reaching the semi-finals of the season-ending championships on debut.

In addition to her two Grand Slam runner-up showings at Wimbledon and the US Open, Anisimova has won two WTA 1000 titles in Doha and in Beijing.

Anisimova had won 26 of her last 32 matches before arriving in Riyadh, where she was ultimately no match for Rybakina in her opening match. However, the American managed to recover from a set down to beat Madison Keys 4-6 6-3 6-2, keeping her chances of making the final four alive.
