Nishesh Basavareddy is set to face Justin Engel in a pivotal clash at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. Basavareddy, who already triumphed over Dino Prizmic, holds the power to secure a semi-final spot by defeating Engel. Engel, although out of the competition, could still impact the tournament's dynamics with a strong performance. With his consistent form and experience under new coaching, Basavareddy looks to outmaneuver the powerful yet inconsistent Engel. Both players bring compelling narratives to this high-stakes match.

Nishesh Basavareddy vs Justin Engel Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Nishesh Basavareddy has his destiny in his own hands when he aims for the Next Gen ATP Finals semis against Justin Engel in Jeddah on Friday.

Courtesy of his win over Dino Prizmic to open Red Group action earlier in the week, Basavareddy can confirm his place in the semi-finals by beating Engel due to H2H records being the tiebreak if players finish on equal points. Prizmic will need to defeat Alexander Blockx in the following match, but the Belgian has already confirmed his place in the final four - and Basavareddy can remove the Croatian from the tournament if he emerges triumphant here.

It will be a tough assignment for the American - Engel has an absolute weapon of a forehand, but the 18-year-old remains erratic and inconsistent, losing both of his matches in his debut appearance in Jeddah in four sets. Our best bet is Over 23.5 total games - seven of the eight group matches so far at the Next Gen ATP Finals have gone to at least four sets and over this total, while Basavareddy is the more experienced and steadier of the pair - if he can weather the Engel forehand storm, he should be too clutch in the pivotal moments.

Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Nishesh Basavareddy Form Analysis

Next Gen ATP Finals Results:

  • Day 1: def. Prizmic 4-2 4-3 3-4 4-2
  • Day 2: lost vs Blockx 4-3 4-3 4-1

It's been a mixed back for Basavareddy in his second appearance at the Next Gen ATP Finals, producing a great performance to upset Dino Prizmic before being outclassed by the in-form second seed Alexander Blockx.

Basavareddy's backhand was on fire in his four-set triumph over Prizmic, but after missing out on three sets points in the second set, he was no match for Blockx, who promptly ran away with a straight sets triumph.

However, as mentioned, Basavareddy is in control of his own destiny and can punch his ticket to the semi-finals with a win over Engel.

Basavareddy opened the year brilliantly, reaching his first ATP semi-final in Auckland and even taking a set off Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open, but his momentum faded as the season progressed. With new coach Gilles Cervara now guiding his development and a new strength-and-conditioning coach added to his team, the American appears ready to reset, rebuild and push toward the next breakthrough stage of his career.

Justin Engel Form Analysis

Next Gen ATP Finals Results:

  • Day 1: lost vs Blockx 3-4 4-2 4-2 4-1
  • Day 2: lost vs Prizmic 4-1 2-4 4-3 4-1

Engel has showcased flashes of brilliance across his two matches, but ultimately he doesn't have the consistency yet to sustain his powerful brand of tennis.

As a result, the 18-year-old has been eliminated from the tournament - but he could still throw a spanner in the works with a big performance here.

The German was close to taking a two-sets-to-one lead over Prizmic on Thursday, but he couldn't squeeze out the tiebreaker and faded in the fourth.

Engel has enjoyed a remarkable rise in 2025, climbing from a ranking of No. 400 at the start of the year to his current position at No. 187. His breakout moment came during the grass-court event in Stuttgart, where he reached his first ATP quarter-final by defeating James Duckworth and world No. 35 Alex Michelsen, before pushing Felix Auger-Aliassime in a tight encounter.

In doing so, Engel became the second-youngest player since Rafael Nadal in 1990 to notch tour-level victories on hardcourt, clay and grass within the same season - a milestone that underscores just how quickly his game is developing.
