Casper Ruud vs Jaime Faria ATP Gstaad Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Back on his beloved clay, Casper Ruud begins his pursuit of a third Swiss Open title when he meets Jaime Faria in the second round in Gstaad on Thursday.
Ruud has his annual mid-season break and skipped most of the grass swing before losing in the first round of Wimbledon, a tournament he personally couldn't care less about.
This is where Ruud does his best work - with most of the elite players resting up after a big clay and grass swing and preparing for the North American hardcourt summer, the Norwegian uses this as an opportunity to build his ranking and secure more titles.
Ruud is a two-time champion in Gstaad and he deservedly starts as the tournament favourite again here. He returned to top form on clay earlier this year, highlighted by a run to the Rome Masters final, and he will be keen to keep his momentum on the dirt rolling here.
Faria is in good form and coming off a three-set win over home favourite Stan Wawrinka in his opening round, while Ruud enjoyed a bye as one of the top four seeds.
Ruud will have to be on from the get-go, but as mentioned, he lives for these kinds of tournaments and I don't think any motivation will be lacking. Faria can't be discounted, but on this surface, Ruud should be coming away with a straight sets victory.

Casper Ruud Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 23-13
- ATP Gstaad Record: 9-1
- Current Ranking: No. 13
- Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)
Ruud had a relatively slow start to the season, but naturally picked things up during the clay swing, propelling himself back into the top 15 in the rankings.
After a R16 finish in Monte Carlo, Ruud advanced to the quarter-finals in Madrid before a big run to the final in Rome, where it took Jannik Sinner to stop him.
Perhaps playing too much cost Ruud going deep at Roland Garros - he decided to play in Geneva immediately following Rome and went out in the semi-finals before a fourth round exit at the French Open to Joao Fonseca.
Ruud predictably didn't play much on grass and crashed out in Round 1 of Wimbledon once again to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.
Jaime Faria Form Analysis
- 2026 ATP Record: 7-5
- ATP Gstaad Record: 1-0
- Current Ranking: No. 92
- Career-High Ranking: No. 87 (2025)
Faria has continued to make steady progress in 2026 and arrived in Gstaad sitting just five places below his career-best ranking.
After an injury-interrupted start to the campaign, the Portuguese youngster regained momentum with runner-up finishes at the Sao Paulo and Mauthausen Challenger events before taking that form onto the ATP Tour.
The 22-year-old announced himself on the big stage at Roland Garros, battling through qualifying before reaching the third round. Along the way he defeated Grigor Dimitrov, Denis Shapovalov and Jan-Lennard Struff, eventually falling in a five-set thriller to Frances Tiafoe.
Faria also came through qualifying at Wimbledon, backing it up with a first-round victory before his impressive run ended with a four-set defeat to eventual Eastbourne champion Zizou Bergs.
Extending his R1 record to 11-0 at all levels, Faria produced a great performance to subdue veteran home favourite Stan Wawrinka in his Gstaad opener, grinding out a 6-7(8) 6-4 6-4 victory.
