Shelton finished runner-up in Munich last year and is hoping to go one step further this time around, while Fonseca has shrugged off injury problems from the start of the year to become one of the tour's most in-form players - it's taken the world's best three players in Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev to eliminate him from the last three tournaments.

Fonseca is an immense talent and no doubt a multiple future Grand Slam champion, but I do think the market is overreacting a bit having hime as a $1.50 favourite here. The fact remains that the Brazilian has a 1-5 record against top 10 players and also a negative 2-3 record in tour-level quarter-finals.

First of all, I'm following the Shelton tiebreak trend, which has been extremely profitable for Bets.com.au tennis readers over the last month. Over 0.5 tiebreaks is an automatic best bet in any Shelton match at the moment. I also think the value lies with the American here - the Munich conditions suit his big-serving game and when he wins, Shelton has been doing it in three sets more often than not lately.

Shelton made an impressive start to the season, reaching another Australian Open quarter-final before claiming his fourth ATP title at the 500 event in Dallas.

That momentum faded during the Sunshine Swing, with illness hampering his preparation and restricting him to just one win across Indian Wells and Miami, where he suffered defeats to Learner Tien and Alexander Shevchenko.

The move to clay in Houston did little to reverse the trend, as lingering physical concerns continued to impact his performances, leading to just one victory before a loss to Thiago Agustín Tirante.

Shelton was again pushed in his Munich opener against Emilio Nava as he edged out a 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3 victory before closing out young gun Alexander Blockx 6-4 7-6(8) to reach the quarter-finals.

Fonseca's start to the season was disrupted by a back injury, but he's returned to full fitness and showcasing the sort of form that has him tipped for a superstar career.

The 19-year-old made a run to the Indian Wells fourth round, where he pushed Jannik Sinner to a pair of tiebreaks, while he was also competitive against Carlos Alcaraz in Miami.

Fonseca made his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final in Monte Carlo last week, where it took Alexander Zverev to stop him in three sets. That means it's taken the world's top three ranked players to eliminate him in the last three Masters 1000 tournaments.

The Brazilian has maintained his high level in Munich, seeing off Alejandro Tabilo 7-6(1) 6-3 in a tough opener before registering a 6-3 6-2 victory over Arthur Rinderknech, saving all nine break points for his second win over the Frenchman in as many weeks.
