Alexander Zverev vs Jacob Fearnley Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Former champion Alexander Zverev begins his Erste Bank Open campaign on Tuesday night when he comes up against familiar foe Jacob Fearnley in the first round.

Zverev has a strong 11-3 record in Vienna, reaching at least the quarter-finals in all four previous main draw appearances and winning the title in 2021, defeating Carlos Alcaraz along the way. However, the German has been well below his best for the majority of 2025 - basically since making the Australian Open final in January, and even then he needed a retirement from Novak Djokovic. Zverev has lost six of his last nine matches at all levels and desperately needs to find some form before defending his Paris Masters title shortly, along with the upcoming ATP Finals.

Fortunately for Zverev, he's got an ideal match for his Vienna opener. Fearnley also looks fatigued from a long first full season on tour, losing nine of his last 15 matches at all levels. Additionally, Fearnley has yet to come close to solving the Zverev puzzle, losing all eight sets the pair have played this year, failing to win more than four games in any of those sets. He's far from reliable at the moment, but backing Zverev to continue his dominance over Fearnley here.

Head To Head

As mentioned, Zverev leads 3-0, winning all three meetings with Fearnley this year in straights at the Australian Open, Miami and the US Open.

Alexander Zverev Form

Zverev comes into this contest with a 48-21 record on the season, winning just the lone title in Munich and clinging onto his No. 3 ranking.

It's been a hugely disappointing year for Zverev, especially when you consider he was a real shot at the World No. 1 ranking when Jannik Sinner was suspended for three months at the start of the year.

Instead, Zverev has crumbled under the pressure and arrives in Vienna having lost six of his last nine matches at all levels.

Zverev lost in the third round of the US Open, went down in both Laver Cup singles matches, suffered a quarter-final loss in Beijing to Daniil Medvedev and fell to Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai. Last week, Zverev lost again to his nemesis Taylor Fritz at the Six Kings Slam.

Jacob Fearnley Form

Fearnley heads into this showdown with a negative 16-18 record at tour-level for the season, dropping from a career-high ranking of No. 49 to a current mark of No. 81.

The Brit enjoyed a good start to the year, but his form has gradually deteriorated and he comes into Vienna having lost nine of his last 15 matches at all levels.

Fearnley hasn't won back-to-back matches at tour-level since reaching the French Open third round, while his two wins in Vienna qualifying over Dalibor Svrcina and Hamad Medjedovic were the first instances of back-to-back victories at any level since Queen's Club.

Coming up against the elite also remains a problem for Fearnley - he's 0-5 vs top 10 players, including 0-4 in 2025 alone.

Verdict

Zverev is down on form, but he's won all eight sets against Fearnley this year, who himself isn't in the best of shape either.

It would be a new low for Zverev to lose this - will back the German again in straights.
