It's been a fantastic start to the season for Wawrinka, who is on the verge of breaking back into the world's top 100 after beginning 2026 outside the top 150. The 40-year-old, who has announced this will be his last year on tour, made the third round of the Australian Open and won a match in Montpellier last week before going down to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime. Meanwhile, Vukic had a mixed Aussie summer, making the Adelaide quarter-finals either side of first round exits in Brisbane and the Australian Open.

I've been backing tiebreaks and the Overs with Wawrinka for the bulk of this season and it's proven quite profitable, so not about to jump off the bandwagon here. I'm also keen to take Vukic to win the opening set, with Wawrinka getting off to a lot of slow starts lately. Vukic has also seen lots of tiebreaks in recent outings, so that's the angle I'm taking with this clash. H2H bettors can find some value on Vukic pulling off the upset in three.

Vukic had a tough year on the main tour in 2025, registering a 14-28 record and almost tumbling out of the top 100.

Some solid late-season results saved him and he's settled in at No. 88 coming into Rotterdam.

The Aussie would have wanted a better summer, although a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Adelaide quarter-final finish wasn't bad.

However, after making the third round of the Australian Open last year, Vukic suffered a very disappointing first round defeat last month, going down in straight sets to Thiago Agustin Tirante.

While a 4-6 record in 2026 might look fairly modest on paper, Wawrinka has been competitive in all of his matches so far this season and if he maintains his current form, a return to the top 100 should be on the horizon.

The 40-year-old became the oldest player since Ken Rosewall to reach the Australian Open third round following wins over Laslo Djere and Arthur Gea. Wawrinka also impressed at the United Cup, beating Flavio Cobolli and winning sets of Zizou Bergs and Hubert Hurkacz.

Wawrinka was back in action last week in Montpellier, toppling Hamad Medjedovic in the first round before running into eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime, going down 6-4 7-6.

The Swiss is a former champion in Rotterdam, taking the title back in 2015, while he also finished runner-up in 2019.
