Roma head into their Champions League opener against Fenerbahce as strong favorites, having won all three of their Serie A matches this season. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini, known for his success in Europe, leads a talented attacking trio of Donyell Malan, Paulo Dybala, and Rodrigo Mora, with Malan already netting five goals in three matches. Fenerbahce, returning to the competition after 16 years, have a competitive squad and home advantage, but recent form and squad changes may hinder their challenge. Key prediction: Roma to win and both teams to score.

Fenerbahce vs Roma Champions League Tips & Prediction

Roma are backed to make it four wins from four to start the season in a game where both teams find the back of the net, with star attacking duo Donyell Malan and Paulo Dybala set to be heavily involved once again.

Gian Piero Gasperini has got this Roma side playing some brilliant football to start the season and they head to Istanbul as the deserved favourites to secure an opening three points in their first Champions League campaign in seven years.

Gasperini won the Europa League with Atalanta two years ago and has lost just four of his previous 23 Champions League games as manager - the man knows what he's doing on the continental stage.

Roma are equipped with an exciting front three comprised of Donyell Malan, Paulo Dybala and rising teenage winger Rodrigo Mora. The trio have combined for 10 goal involvements across Roma's opening three Serie A wins and now they will be looking to make a further impact in the Champions League.

Fenerbahce can put up a fight at home - they will be keen to perform in their first Champions League game since 2008, while they've assembled a strong squad more than capable of finding the back of the net.

But overall, I think Roma are the better side and Gasperini can lead this side to a first-up victory here. Take Roma to win, both teams to score, with Malan making it six goals for the season and Dybala firing off two shots on target.
  • Roma have won all three games to start the season
  • Fenerbahce are coming off a home loss to Beskitas last weekend
  • Fenerbahce have scored in all 10 competitive games this season
  • Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has gone unbeaten in 19 of his last 23 UCL games
  • Fenerbahce have lost five of their last six games vs Italian teams
  • Donyell Malan scored 14 goals in 18 Serie A games last season & has five in three games this term
  • Paulo Dybala has registered 13 total shots in three games this season & had two on target in his most-recent outing vs Atalanta

Fenerbahce vs Roma Head To Head

This will be the first ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

Fenerbahce Form Analysis

It's been a gruelling road back to the Champions League for Fenerbache, who have played a total of 154 qualifying games since they last featured in the competition back in 2008.

The Turkish giants successfully navigated a six-game qualifying route over the summer, moving past Górnik Zabrze, Sturm Graz, and Lyon - the latter of which was a fiery clash in France where Mattéo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood were sanctioned for their post-match antics.

While qualifying for the Champions League was the primary goal at the start of the season, it hasn't been an ideal start in the Turkish Super Lig, with Fenerbache already losing two games - including last weekend at home in a 2-1 defeat against Beskitas - to fall four points behind rivals Galatasaray.

Fenerbahce Team News

Guendouzi is suspended by UEFA for this clash, but Greenwood's ban is delayed until next year, meaning the English winger - who scored in qualifying games against Sturm Graz & Lyon - will be free to take his place in the starting side.

Talisca was top-scorer in qualifying, but has recently departed the club, meaning former Roma striker Romelu Lukaku might start - but Vedat Muriqi is still likely to be preferred up front. Marco Asensio is also in doubt with a thigh strain.

Fenerbahce Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Mert Muldur, Milan Skriniar, Nathan Ake, Archie Brown; Ismail Yuksek, NGolo Kante; Kerem Akturkoglu, Mason Greenwood, Oguz Aydin; Vedat Muriqi

Roma Form Analysis

Roma are back in the Champions League for the first time in seven years and they will be keen to make an impact once again on the biggest stage.

It's been the perfect start for Roma in the Serie A, with Gasperini's side taking a maximum nine points from three games, thumping Fiorentina and Lecce 4-0 before a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Atalanta at home.

Trailing 1-0 in the 89th minute, Mario Hermoso got Roma level before Matias Soule fired home a low strike to secure the win in a dramatic conclusion in the capital.

Roma Team News

Malan, Dybala and Mora form a potent front three, with Malan scoring 19 goals in his first 21 Serie A appearances, while Dybala has four assists already this season and has 12 goal involvements in 16 UCL appearances.

Roma are blessed with almost a full clean bill of health, with only Lorenzo Pellegrini sidelined.

Roma Possible Starting XI (3-4-2-1): Mile Svilar; Gianluca Mancini, Evan NDicka, Mario Hermoso; Nahuel Molina, Bryan Cristante, Manu Kone, Wesley Franca; Paulo Dybala, Matias Soule; Donyell Malen

Verdict

Roma are on fire to start the season & are tipped to prevail with both teams finding the back of the net.
