Como's remarkable rise continues as they make their Champions League debut against Leipzig, following a strong Serie A campaign and impressive early season form. Led by exciting young talents like Assane Diao, Nico Paz and Martin Baturina, Como are backed to win their first home game of the season. Leipzig, on the other hand, struggle in European away matches and have defensive vulnerabilities. With key players out, Leipzig’s chances look slim. Expect Como to secure all three points, likely with a clean sheet.

Como vs Leipzig Champions League Tips & Prediction

Como are backed for all three points on their Champions League debut on Thursday night, with added value on keeping poor travellers Leipzig scoreless.

Competing in the fourth tier of Italian football as recently as 2018/19, it's been a remarkable rise to the pinnacle of continental football for Como, who secured their spot in the Champions League courtesy of their fourth-place finish in the Serie A last term.

Cesc Fabregras has got this Como side playing some wonderful attacking football, led by an exciting attacking threat of Nico Paz, Assane Diao and Martin Baturina, all of whom are 23 years or younger, while Moise Kean has arrived in the summer and provides a threat off the bench. Starting striker Anastasios Douvikas is also part of a long list of Greek players to have emerged over the last couple of years.

Set to play their first home game of the season, Como come into this clash in brilliant form, recording back-to-back victories over Napoli and Genoa, scoring six goals in the process.

Leipzig meanwhile are back on the continental stage after missing out on European football altogether last term, but their last foray in the Champions League wasn't a memorable one as the German club lost seven of their eight games.

Going on the road is an issue for Leipzig - they've lost five of their last six away games in Europe and failed to keep a clean sheet in 18 straight European outings. Martín Demichelis’ side also lost 3-1 away to Bremen in their most-recent Bundesliga game.

This looks the perfect spot for Como to officially announce themselves as a dark horse in this year's Champions League and they can win this with a clean sheet after conceding just 29 goals in the Serie A last term (least in the league). Diao has three goal involvements across his last two outings and the Senegalese winger can contribute again here.
  • Como are unbeaten in their last eight games, winning their last two
  • Como had the best defence in Serie A last season, leaking just 29 goals
  • Leipzig have lost four of their last six away games
  • Leipzig have lost five of their last six European away games
  • Leipzig have conceded 1+ goal in 18 straight European games
  • Leipzig are 0-2 vs Italian teams in the UCL
  • Assane Diao scored a brace vs Genoa last weekend + had an assist the previous game vs Napoli

Como Form Analysis

Como have picked up from where they left off last season, currently sitting in fourth spot on the Serie A ladder after three games.

After a 1-1 draw with Udinese on the road in their league opener, Como have picked up a maximum six points, taking the scalp of Napoli 2-1 before thumping Genoa 4-1.

Making the wins more impressive is the fact they both came on the road, with this Champions League game set to be Como's first home game of the season.

Baturina and Douvikas were on target against Napoli, while the former also netted against Genoa, with Diao bagging a brace and Paz also getting his name on the scoresheet.

Como Team News

Moise Kean has scored five goals in six previous UCL appearances, but he will likely need to be content with coming off the bench for the time being, with Douvikas scoring 14 Serie A goals last term.

Jayden Addai is out for the season after suffering an achilles injury, while Robert Sanchez is an intriguing loan signing from Chelsea - but he will be behind current shot-stopper Jean Butez at the moment.

Como Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Jean Butez; Yan Couto, Jacobo Ramón, Trevoh Chalobah, Álex Valle; Máximo Perrone, Lucas da Cunha; Assane Diao, Nico Paz, Martin Baturina; Anastasios Douvikas

Leipzig Form Analysis

Leipzig will be taking part in their eighth Champiions League campaign after making their debut in the competition eight years ago, with their best result being a semi-final finish in 2019-20.

However, their most-recent appearance was disappointing as Leipzig finished in 32nd spot on the table, losing seven of their eight outings.

A third place finish in the Bundesliga last term saw Leipzig return to the UCL, but it wasn't enough for Ole Werner to keep his job, with Demichelis taking charge.

It was an initial good start to the season for Leipzig as they battered Trier 6-0 in the German Cup and eased past Monchengladbach 3-0 in the Bundesliga. However, away form continues to be a problem, with Leipzig falling 3-1 to Bremen last weekend.

Leipzig Team News

Rocco Reitz, Romulo and Christoph Baumgartner are all out for Leipzig, while Brajan Gruda and Assan Ouedraogo are in some doubt.

Antonio Nusa is the main attacking threat for Leipzig after Yan Diomande's departure to Real Madrid in the summer, while Christopher Nkunku is back on loan from Milan.

Leipzig Possible Starting XI (4-3-3): Maarten Vandevoordt; Ridle Baku, Willi Orbán, Maxime Estève, David Raum; Neil El Aynaoui, Nicolas Seiwald, Ezechiel Banzuzi; Johan Bakayoko, Christopher Nkunku, Antonio Nusa
