Reigning premiers Central Coast have started to pick up some solid form over the last month or so and are backed to secure another three points against their lowly rivals. The Mariners have won the last six meetings between the teams and nine of the last 10 overall. Newcastle meanwhile have won just two of their last 11 games - and those two victories were against the only teams below them on the ladder in Brisbane and Perth. The Jets have however scored in their last seven outings, so the visitors can find the back of the net in defeat here.

As mentioned, the Mariners have won the last six F3 derbies - including a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph back in Round 5.

It was a slow start to the season for the Mariners, but they've gradually improved and are now within striking distance of the top six.

Indeed, the Mariners head into Round 17 unbeaten in five of their last six games, with the two-time reigning Grand Final winners just three points adrift of the finals positions.

Central Coast have defeated Brisbane and the Wanderers by 3-1 scores during that period, while their most-recent encounter was a solid 2-2 draw against in-form Western United on the road mid-week.

Lucas Mauragis and Nicholas Duarte were missing again in the mid-week draw with Western and are also in doubt for this encounter.

Newcastle Jets Form

It's been another disappointing season for the Jets, who are almost certainly out of the finals picture heading into Round 17.

With just two wins from their last 11 games and registering just one victory against a team above them on the ladder, Newcastle will once again finish at the wrong end of the table.

After losing back-to-back games by 3-1 scores against Western United and Macarthur, the Jets failed to return to the winners circle last week, settling for a 2-2 draw against Perth - a team they had beaten 4-0 on the road earlier in the campaign.
