Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers Tips & Predictions

Western Sydney Wanderers are desperate for three points in order to keep pace with the top six as they prepare to face rock-bottom Brisbane Roar to kick off A-League Round 17 on Friday night at Suncorp.

Obviously it's been a horrendous season for the Roar, while the Wanderers have also hit a recent rough patch. I'm backing Over 3.5 goals as the best bet for this encounter. At least four goals have been scored in three of the last four meetings between the teams, while the Roar saw seven goals in their most-recent outing. Both of these teams also rank in the bottom three this season for goals conceded.

In terms of a winner, I'm tentatively leaning with the Wanderers. The Roar may have won their first game of the season in their last game, but they've lost all six of their home games this term and I'm going to need to see a lot more before I can start backing them - even in double chance markets. The Wanderers are actually unbeaten in their last four games on the road, winning three, so the visitors look decent value.

  • Roar have lost all six home games this season
  • Wanderers have won three of their last four away games
  • Over 3.5 goals has landed in three of the last four meetings
  • Roar saw seven goals in their last game
  • Roar have seen Over 3.5 goals in four of their last six home games
  • Wanderers have seen Over 3.5 goals in three of their last five away games
  • These two teams rank in the bottom three for goals conceded this season

Head To Head

Four of the last five A-League meetings between the teams have resulted in a draw. Both teams have scored in the last eight encounters in all competitions.

Brisbane Roar Form

Anchored to the bottom of the ladder with just one win from 13 games and 17 points adrift of the top six, it's safe to say this season is now officially a write-off for Brisbane.

That's even despite the Roar securing their first win of the season in their most-recent match, registering a shock 4-3 victory over Sydney FC on the road.

However, the Roar now return home to Suncorp, where they've lost all six of their games this season.

Brisbane have also lost teenage striker Thomas Waddingham, who recently signed with Portsmouth in the English Championship, scoring on debut.

Brisbane Roar Team News

Ben Warland is the only unavailable player with injury for this game.

Western Sydney Wanderers Form

It's been a difficult last month or so for the Wanderers, with the team winning just one of their last five games - and that lone victory was against lowly Perth Glory.

As a result, Western Sydney have dropped to eighth spot on the ladder, four points adrift of the top six, making this a crunch fixture.

The Wanderers come into this clash following back-to-back defeats at home against the Mariners (3-1) and Auckland FC (1-0).

However, the good news for the Wanderers is their impressive away form, which has seen them lose just once on the road all season.

Gabriel Cleur and Jeong Tae-Wook both remain in doubt for this encounter.

Verdict

The Roar have lost all of their home games this season and the Wanderers have won three of their last four on the road.

Backing the Wanderers to emerge victorious in a high-scoring game, with both teams finding the back of the net.
