Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders NRL 2025 Round 13 FAQ’s

I keep tipping against the Raiders and keep getting burnt, but not this week, surely. I just can’t seem to put my finger on why Canberra keep winning, but on the other side of things I know why the Chooks have come good, so I’m backing what I understand.

Sydney are moving the ball and no team is safe on any part of the field. The Roosters rank second in linebreaks (6.1/G) and James Tedesco is a huge part of that. Teddy is priming, despite being 32 years old, tallying 9 linebreak assists and 9 try assists along with 70 tackle breaks, which is causing problems for the opposition line. The Roosters attack is beaming and it will fire against the Raiders defence that has been their weakness this season.

Expect Tedesco to free up Mark Nawaqanitawase on the right wing and the Roosters to score over their team total of 22.5 points and get the win as the underdog

The home underdog is covering at a rate of 62.2% in 2025.
Sydney averaged 36 points per game in their last 4 matches.
The Roosters average 6.1 linebreaks per game.
Mark Nawaqanitawase has 6 tries in his last 4 games.

Head to Head

The Roosters took a 28-point win against the Raiders in round 12, 2024 with Canberra returning the favour with a two-point victory in Round 26.

The Raiders have won 3 of the last 4 against the Roosters, however Sydney leads the head-to-head count 7-5 since the 2019 season.

The over-under is at 6-6 in the last 12 matches.

The Chooks are crowing with 3 wins from their last 4 matches, finding a real spark in attack that has them averaging 36 points per game during that period.

The stats aren’t pretty for the Chooks after their poor start to the year, but they are starting to come back to the mean after the last month since their halves Sandon Smith and Hugo Saval have found their chemistry and are delivering great ball to their back five.

The danger that the Roosters bring is that they are attacking from all over the field and creating linebreaks from anywhere on the field, ranked second in the league with an average of 6.1 per game.

Mark Nawaqanitawase has been on a tear and is finding his feet in the NRL with 6 tries in his last 4 matches along with 7 linebreaks of his own.

The Raiders just keep on winning and it is starting to be the time when we all look at them as a contender, but why is it so hard?

They have won 7 of their last 8 matches, with their only blemish a second half collapse against Canterbury. They have averaged 30 points in attack over that 8-game period, conceding just 20.5 in defence.

I don’t know what it is, but they are just not playing enough flashy footy to catch the eye. Despite being second on the ladder they do not rank higher than fifth in any statistical category that we put weight on, but still rank second in the league in average points in 2025.

Defensively they haven’t been great, but manage to score enough points to win 9 of 12 games this season. Maybe it is time to reevaluate our methods cause whatever the Raiders are doing right, it is working.
