Manly Sea Eagles vs Brisbane Broncos, NRL Round 13 - Expert Prediction

Incredibly, this will be the Broncos' first game at 4 Pines Park since 2014, with only three squad members having played at the venue. 4 Pines Park is typically a fortress for Manly, but not this season, with the hosts losing their last three games at the ground.

I'll preface this by admitting I have zero confidence in this tip, but I'm backing the Broncos to finally turn things around here. The Sea Eagles haven't been the same since DCE announced his intention to leave the club, which has caused a fracture in the playing group - not for the first time at Manly. Cherry-Evans' individual performances have also suffered and he was well below his best in Origin on Wednesday night. Now the oldest ever Origin representative for QLD has to back up a few days later. Throw in the absence of Tom and Jake Trbojevic and this Manly side look there for the taking.

Brisbane's attack has all the talent in the world, so I'm tipping it to finally click on Saturday night - backing Michael Maguire's side to cover a small line and score Over 24.5 team points. Jason Saab remains the main threat with his speed and aerial presence out wide for Manly and he hasn't gone back-to-back games without scoring since Round 22/23 last year. After failing to cross vs Eels last week, Saab can bag his eighth try of the season.

  • Broncos have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the teams
  • Sea Eagles have lost five of their last seven games
  • Sea Eagles have lost their last three games at 4 Pines
  • Broncos have scored 25+ points in four of their five wins this season
  • Sea Eagles have conceded 30 points in their last two defeats
  • Jason Saab has scored 70 tries in 95 career games & hasn't gone back-to-back games without scoring since Round 22/23 last year

Head To Head

Manly have only managed three wins over the Broncos since 2016, with Brisbane edging last year's Round 11 clash 13-12 courtesy of a Jock Madden field goal.

Manly's form has fallen off a cliff and it's tough to see them having enough consistency to finish the season inside the top eight.

It's absolutely no coincidence that the Sea Eagles have lost five of their last seven games since Cherry-Evans announced he would be leaving the club on live television.

Anthony Seibold's side have lost five of their last seven games, including a most-recent 30-10 beatdown at the hands of an Eels side missing Mitch Moses.

If Parramatta without Moses can put 30 points on you, you're in deep trouble...

It's been a shocking last couple of months for the Broncos, who come into this encounter having lost five of their last six games.

There wasn't really any indication this dip in form was coming after Brisbane opened the season by dropping 50 points on the Roosters and winning three straight games against the Dolphins, Tigers and Cowboys from Round 3-5.

However, despite a premiership-winning roster (and coach), the Broncos have slipped back into their old habits from last season - poor attitude and lack of intensity, especially in defence.

Before last week's bye, the Broncos were last seen losing 30-26 at home to the Dragons.

Verdict

The Broncos are backed to turn things around in their first game at Brookvale since 2014, with Manly currently on a three-game losing streak at home.

Jason Saab can still cross for the hosts to continue his prolific career strike-rate.
