Both teams have been very ordinary in defence this season, especially the Dolphins in their most recent matchups, which opens this game up for attack. The return of Mitch Moses has obviously been a positive for the club, especially with ball in hand and that is where they will find their edge in this game.

Jason Ryles and Kristian Woolf have their work cut out for them, fixing their team’s defence and will rely heavily on their attack to get them victories in the first half of the season.

Look for Moses' superior kicking game to put the Eels in better field position and then spread the ball right to dissect the left-side defence of the Dolphins which has been under the pump over the last couple of weeks.

With that in mind, look for both Bailey Simonsson and Sean Russell to see a lot of ball inside their opposition 20m and cross for a try.

  • The Dolphins have not won outside of Queensland this season.
  • The game total of 49.5 points has been surpassed in both matches between the Dolphins and Eels.
  • The last 3 Dolphins matches have had a total score of 62+ points going over the game total.
  • The Dolphins left-side defence gave up 4 tries to their opposing centre-wing pairing last week.

Head to Head

The score is 1-1 in the head-to-head battle between the Dolphins and Eels. Parramatta got a 28-point win in 2023, while the Dolphins also took a 28-point win last season in 2024.

Both games have been played on neutral grounds on the Sunshine Coast and in Darwin.

Both games have gone over the game total with 60+ points in each match.

Parramatta put in another good performance but it wasn’t enough to get past the Sharks in Magic Round, going down 28-18. The Cronulla defence proved why they are the second-best team in the comp defensively, starving the Eels of too many scoring chances.

Despite the loss, the Eels still looked like an improved outfit with Mitch Moses in the squad, especially in attack and they will continue to lift themselves from the bottom of the ladder if they follow the same trajectory.

Moses once again was the centre of the attack for the Eels, recording a try assist and two linebreaks, while his halves partner Dylan Brown had a try and a linebreak assist.

The Dolphins internally combusted in defence against the Roosters, just as they did against the Raiders in the second half the week prior.

The Dolphins gave up 8 linebreaks to the Roosters, really suffering on the edges with their defensive combinations. Despite territory being 50-50 in the end, the Dolphins had just 14 tackles inside their opposition 20m, compared to the 29 they gave up to Sydney.

Field positon and go forward is the biggest weakness for the Dolphins with and without the ball with Redcliff 12th in attacking and defensive run metres, while ranked 14th in linebreak creation (3.8/G) and 12th in opposition line breaks (5.2/G).
