Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins NRL 2025 Round 5 FAQ’s

Good defence and the Gold Coast Titans have not been words that have come out of anyone's mouth in a while. But, after the last two weeks it is on the tip of some tongues, conceding just 18 points in their last two matches against the Knights and Roosters.

It has been a long time coming but Titans fans can feel a shift in the air and a successful season is on the horizon. The Titans have a fairly settled lineup and a forward pack that can match it with the best and they will prove that this week and hand the Dolphins their fifth straight loss of the season.

The Dolphins have not been able to find anything in attack while defensively they have also been found wanting. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has been nowhere, but can the Dolphins fullback really go five games without coming up on the scoresheet. I think not.

A try from the Hammer will be one of too few highlights for the Dolphins, who will not add too much to the score line that will stay under the 53.5-point total.

The Dolphins have an average losing margin of 9 points this season.
The Titans have conceded a total of just 3 tries in their last 2 matches.
The Dolphins average just 14 points per game this season.
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has 4 tries in his last 5 games against the Titans.

Head to Head

The Titans got their first win against the Dolphins in Round 21 last season, scoring four tries to two in a 21-14 victory with Alofiana Khan-Pereira scoring a double.

The Dolphins also got a 30-14 victory against the Gold Coast in 2024 and lead the head-to-head count 3-1 between the two clubs.

The Gold Coast have two consecutive wins after beating the Knights and backing it up with a 30-12 victory over the Roosters in Sydney in Round 4.

The Titans have shown some resilience in defence over the last 2 weeks, something that has been missing from their game over the last few seasons. After letting the Dogs put 40 on them in round one, the Titans have given up just 3 tries in their last 2 matches.

The Titans defence isn’t without its flaws though, giving up an average of 6.3 linebreaks per game and facing a total of 110 tackles inside their 20m in three matches. However, over the last two games they have been able to defend their line with an average of 40.5 tackles inside their 20m and giving up as mentioned, just 3 tries total.

Kristian Woolf’s reign as head coach of the Dolphins couldn’t have started any worse, going 0-4 in his first stint as head coach in the NRL.

The Dolphins were not a bad attacking side in 2024 but have struggled to find their combinations and unleash their attacking strengths like Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow who has no tries and no linebreaks through the first four games of the season with only one try assist as the sole attacking stat for the Dolphins fullback.

The Dolphins defence has often relied on their attacking ability to put up points to dig them out of trouble over the first couple of seasons and nothing has changed on the front, still averaging 23 points against this season.

Verdict

Gold Coast Titans v Dolphins

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will score for the Dolphins but it will not be enough for them to cover as the underdog against the Titans. This much will see little attack from the Dolphins which will see the game total hit the under.
