Randwick Tips October 25

Race 1 - 12:25 PM Gow-Gates Kirkham Plate Tips (1000m)

Field of debutants for the two-year-old opener. Late betting has to be respected, and there are a few stables with contenders who aren’t regulars in metro juvenile races.

3. Green Kirk has shown early speed in two trial wins, and from gate one he should be able to land straight on the pace. The son of Ole Kirk is out of Snit Ball, a full sister to Summer Passage — a New Zealand Group 1-winning two-year-old.

6. Predation picked up well in a small field when winning a Rosehill 900m heat on October 13, a trial that went around a half-length faster than the one taken out by 2. Defenseman.

A $1.4 million Coolmore colt by Wootton Bassett and prepared by Chris Waller, Defenseman has been kept safe in early markets.

1000m might prove a bit sharp for 1. Anthropoid, but he’s a nice-moving youngster worth keeping an eye on.

Selections: 3 – 6 – 2 – 1.

Race 2 - 1:00 PM TAB Highway Handicap Tips (1600m)

A lot of recent Highway references tie in through a handful of these, and despite the market suggesting otherwise, there doesn’t appear to be much between those runners.

10. Craft arrives off a third-place finish on return via a Goulburn Class 3, where he was one-paced behind a quinella that cleared out, but it was still a pass mark and getting to 1600m looks a big tick. He can use gate one and potentially lead over this longer trip.

We were with 2. Ghost Walker second-up at big odds, where he was brave in second after covering ground, and he then went one better at Goulburn when saluting with 63.5kg. Won fourth-up last prep.

No knock on 3. Poisen Point, a Highway winner two starts back who arguably should’ve saluted again on October 11.

13. Wandjad was luckless in the same race and that followed an eye-catching fourth on return. At big odds again, but has to overcome a wide draw.

Selections: 10 – 2 – 3 – 13.

Race 3 - 1:35 PM Midway Handicap Tips (1200m)

Not a prime set-up first-up from a wide alley, but 10. Oakfield Jupiter looks the horse to follow out of this Midway regardless of Saturday’s result.

She recorded back-to-back wins at her first two starts in April, showing raw ability while still learning, and was spelled after a Listed attempt at Scone. The mare was strong through the line in her latest trial, and Jason Collett sticks from that hit-out.

9. Zounaka dug in to score a narrow fresh win before covering ground in a midweek BM72 and was then dragged back in a muddling affair third-up. From a better draw and with 3.5kg less in a Midway, she’s well placed.

Before a spell, 6. Motoscafo was a 20/1 Midway winner on June 14 and ran the fastest last 200m of that card. Recent trials have been quiet.

3. Mafia was better at Muswellbrook when covering ground as runner-up to Earl Of Bantry, who won again last Saturday.

Selections: 10 – 9 – 6 – 3.

Race 4 - 2:10 PM Robrick Lodge Filante Handicap Tips (1600m)

It’s a very low race. 9. Point And Shoot is a short-priced favourite and clearly the best horse in this line-up, but he must be taken on trust given his habit of blowing the start, which was again the case in last week’s Silver Eagle where he went around at $51.

The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper drops in weight against a mostly uninspiring bunch, but the question remains — will he jump cleanly?

6. Zondee could be the forgotten runner off one poor showing, and he did pull up lame after that October 15 performance. Prior to that, he was beaten only half a length over this track-and-trip despite racing three-wide throughout.

4. Kintyre was a dual Group-winning three-year-old, but the drought has stretched to nearly 18 months. This is the thinnest race he’s seen in some time.

Thought we might have caught 7. Invasive Dreams in something much easier at the provincials, but it was still a big second-up run in Midway company.

Selections: 9 – 4 – 6 – 7.

Race 5 - 2:45 PM Kia Ora Brian Crowley Stakes Tips (1200m)

A competitive three-year-old race with a strong honour roll, featuring the likes of Reigning To Win, Northern Meteor, Hot Snitzel, Better Than Ready, Spright, The Bopper and Mazu among past winners.

5. Young Mister Grace is chasing a hat-trick at just his third start, a colt who’s shown plenty of raw ability at the provincials. He’s still a campaign or so away from fully furnishing, but this is a suitable test.

It’s a touch surprising that 1. Memo isn’t favourite, albeit the strike rate isn’t flash, with the Group 3-winning filly now third-up and returning to Sydney after an unlucky second in a strong Scarborough Stakes.

7. Skyglider was spelled after a debut win on July 23, and that maiden form has stood up superbly through both Sixties, who defeated the eventual Caulfield Guineas winner last month, and Estremo, a Group 3 winner who also came from that same Canterbury race.

8. Miss Freelove was ridden colder second-up, where she exploded late at Warwick Farm, and she carries 5.5kg less here.

Selections: 5 – 1 – 7 – 8.

Race 6 - 3:20 PM Cincotta Chemist Craven Plate Tips (1800m)

1. Lindermann was always a solid performer, but the six-year-old has gone to a new level this campaign after not handling a Heavy 10 surface in his Winx Stakes resumption.

The Chris Waller-trained galloper then defeated a beast in Sir Delius before being beaten a pimple by Fangirl, and in that 7 Stakes he took care of Ceolwulf and Private Eye — both feature winners last Saturday. A fortnight ago, he easily accounted for a similar lot to this.

7. El Castello has been building fairly in three runs back from a decent layoff, and getting to 1800m in a race with less depth suits. Maybe still one run off, but he’s going much better than his form suggests.

4. Militarize was the pick of the closers in the Hill Stakes, running the fastest sectionals of that Group 2, but may want further now and hasn’t won in more than two years.

2. Bois D’argent was the unlucky runner in the Hill Stakes when held up, and the grey bolted in via his last Randwick attempt.

Selections: 1 – 7 – 4 – 2.

Race 7 - 3:55 PM Catanach’s Jewellers Callander-Presnell Tips (1600m)

Adam Hyeronimus and the Waterhouse & Bott stable combined to win last year’s Callander-Presnell with Prost, and in the 2025 edition they team up again with 8. Duke Of Arrakis, who’s looking to bounce back after a second-up flop.

There were excuses in that Tapp-Craig assignment, where the colt was stirred up pre-race and never settled with the blinkers on. That gear has now been removed, and his first-up run along with the lead-up trials were both sound.

Blinkers go on 1. Rivellino, and he’s a tricky one to assess. Interstate travel on a seven-day turnaround is never easy, and upside may be limited at his fifth run this prep. That said, he still brings the best exposed form.

2. Ohope easily accounted for a heavily supported Farnicle in the Tapp-Craig and has been consistent throughout the campaign.

4. Ruination won his first two starts before running into the smart Attica in the Dulcify Stakes, but he’s now deep into his first prep.

Selections: 8 – 1 – 2 – 4.

Race 8 - 4:30 PM Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Tips (2000m)

I was a huge fan of his dam Arcadia Queen, a three-time Group 1 winner who could’ve been a genuine superstar if not for injuries. 6. Federalist is her first foal and, while yet to finish in the money from five starts, he’s long looked a type who would relish 2000m.

He gets to that trip third-up after recording the second-fastest closing sectionals of the Dulcify Stakes, where he made solid inroads over 1600m. That followed what was effectively a barrier trial first-up in the Ming Dynasty, and the runner-up from that race went on to win the Caulfield Guineas.

Both 1400m and 1600m proved too sharp last prep, but his Sires’ and Champagne runs hinted longer would suit. With natural improvement and extra ground, he appeals as a genuine each-way play despite the wide alley.

1. Attica is on the second line of betting and might be the class runner of the race, while 2. Shangri La Boy could prove the better stayer. The Spring Champion Stakes often lacks depth, with favourites dominating its honour roll. Attica comes through the Dulcify Stakes, where his turn-of-foot was decisive over 1600m, and he’s since ticked over nicely in a trial. The query is whether his brilliance can stretch to 2000m

Shangri La Boy has improved with each run — his one-paced debut over 1250m gave little away, but stretching in distance has unlocked him, highlighted by his strong last-start victory over 1800m in the Gloaming Stakes.

8. Tambeloa broke through at Warwick Farm before two honest runs since, the latest a sound Gloaming Stakes effort when running the third-fastest last 200m. There’s still upside with the son of Tagaloa, who gets visors on for the first time, and Jay Ford — a dual Spring Champion winner — sticks. He’s your knockout.

Selections: 6 – 1 – 2 – 8.

Race 9 - 5:15 PM The Invitation Tips (1400m)

This shapes as an ideal third-up assignment for the consistent 3. Miss Roumbini, whose only time finishing out of the money in 11 appearances was a fourth-place effort at start three. She arrives here off two runner-up finishes over the Caulfield 1400m.

She was brave in the first of those when second in the Cockram Stakes taken out by Magic Time, with strong form behind her including Abounding — a Group 2 winner last Saturday. Freshened since contesting a fast-run Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, she’s also been successful at her past two third-up attempts.

1. Stefi Magnetica can be hard to catch, but concede she’s the class runner of this field, and autumn references support that for the dual Group 1 winner. A tick-over trial since a fair return should have her ready to peak, and this looks a set play.

2. Manaal is very honest and a return to Sydney form has seen her claim two of the key lead-ups to The Invitation.

10. More Territories was unsuited fresh in a leader-dominated affair, then second-up ran the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m of the Rosehill card on October 11.

Selections: 3 – 1 – 2 – 10.

Race 10 - 5:55 PM Five Diamonds Prelude Tips (1500m)

Nothing was expected on Australian debut over 1200m, where 12. Shadizi was a big drifter in betting and it was effectively a barrier trial after being dragged to the rear, though he finished off with purpose and clocked the race-fastest last 200m.

Second-up, the Chris Waller-trained import saw nothing but backsides before flashing home when it was all over. That Cafe Millennium form ties in neatly through Transatlantic, with the pair clashing the start prior. He now draws kinder in gate two and will hopefully get a more positive ride.

1. Transatlantic capped off his Melbourne visit with a Group 1 Toorak Handicap win and now stops at Sydney en route to Queensland. He rises 3kg but dropping back 100m looks a plus, if anything.

5. General Salute has the X-factor but needs to stretch his burst further now. He found traffic last start and ran into a star in Autumn Glow before that.

At longer odds, respect 15. Pounce, who debuts in Australia. These US imports can be tricky to line up, but she’s worked well in her two Sydney trials.

Selections: 12 – 1 – 5 – 15.
