There’s plenty to like about Chris Waller’s gelding, who has built a solid record over middle distances and now finds another winnable assignment.

The son of Dundeel ran a pair of honest fourths late last prep at Eagle Farm, including a narrow defeat in a 2169m Benchmark 68 before spelling.

He resumed over 1350m at Ipswich where the trip proved too short, and after a plain run at Eagle Farm second-up, he rebounded strongly here earlier this month.

That most recent effort saw him travel sweetly and score comfortably by over a length in a 2050m Benchmark 68, suggesting he’s back on track.

Holding his form well and racing in similar conditions, Mannerheim appeals as a strong chance to go back-to-back.

Earlier that season, he notched a narrow win in a 1000m Benchmark 78 at the Sunshine Coast, showing his trademark dash late.

A dual first-up winner who goes well fresh, Lost His Beans has trialled well in readiness for this return and has shown the ability to settle off speed when required.

Drawn awkwardly but proven in these conditions, he looks capable of running a cheeky race at odds.
