Doomben Value Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Phenom
The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained filly showed good form last preparation under Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, including a second-up win at Sandown.
That Benchmark 64 victory over 1500m on the Hillside track saw her score by nearly a length before two excellent Group 3 thirds, including the Alexandra Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley.
She was outclassed in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville to round out her campaign but lost no admirers given the depth of that race.
The daughter of Zoustar resumed over 1200m at Toowoomba in a Benchmark 78, leading and fading late over an unsuitable trip.
Much better suited stepping up in distance and racing in a tongue tie for the first time, Phenom looks a genuine value play second-up.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 10 Mannerheim
There’s plenty to like about Chris Waller’s gelding, who has built a solid record over middle distances and now finds another winnable assignment.
The son of Dundeel ran a pair of honest fourths late last prep at Eagle Farm, including a narrow defeat in a 2169m Benchmark 68 before spelling.
He resumed over 1350m at Ipswich where the trip proved too short, and after a plain run at Eagle Farm second-up, he rebounded strongly here earlier this month.
That most recent effort saw him travel sweetly and score comfortably by over a length in a 2050m Benchmark 68, suggesting he’s back on track.
Holding his form well and racing in similar conditions, Mannerheim appeals as a strong chance to go back-to-back.

Doomben Roughie - Race 7 No. 2 Lost His Beans
A winner of five of eight starts, all at the Sunshine Coast, this gelding has always shown a touch of class when produced in the right races.
He debuted with a close-up effort at Doomben and ended last campaign in the $500,000 Magic Millions Country Cup at the Gold Coast, where he finished midfield after enjoying a solid preparation.
Earlier that season, he notched a narrow win in a 1000m Benchmark 78 at the Sunshine Coast, showing his trademark dash late.
A dual first-up winner who goes well fresh, Lost His Beans has trialled well in readiness for this return and has shown the ability to settle off speed when required.
Drawn awkwardly but proven in these conditions, he looks capable of running a cheeky race at odds.

Doomben Best Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Express Payment
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding ended his last campaign in strong style, completing a winning double here in April with a decisive 1660m Benchmark 68 victory.
He resumed at Toowoomba over 1200m last month, running on well from off the speed for a narrow second before returning to the city for another bold performance.
Last start at Eagle Farm, he stuck on strongly to finish runner-up again over 1400m, suggesting a step up in trip now hits the sweet spot.
Jake Bayliss retains the ride, and with fitness and form on his side, the son of Rich Enuff looks ready to continue his consistent run.
Express Payment can capitalise on the set-up and record his third win at Doomben.
