Caulfield Tips March 15

Race 1 - 12:15PM DCE Handicap Tips (2400m)

Best: 4. Revelare. I don't think he'll have any trouble running 2400m and Revelare gets relief for his first try at the trip, with 5.5kg less from his last win.

The main query is that he's very deep into a second prep, while coming to Caulfield is another factor, as all of his metro victories have come on bigger circuits.

Through Kings Valley and Bar Dubai, he's defeated more progressive gallopers than what he finds here and the rating can receive another timely boost.

Value: 8. Ferago. It looks as though he could aimed at a jumping career going forward, with Ferago winning a February 27 hurdle trial at Warrnambool.

He has been below his best, but the eight-year-old still hasn't been disgraced via his last two performances and he plummets in the weights off recent runs.

Ferago is no stranger to a VOBIS meeting and he's only been out of the money once in seven attempts over this track/trip, which includes a win last winter.

Race 2 - 12:45PM Avenel Equine Hospital VOBIS Gold Distaff Tips (1400m)

Best: 1. Regal Vow. These class runners are often so well in via these VOBIS races and Regal Vow does looks superbly placed for a last start Listed winner.

That Boxing Day form has stood up through Marble Arch, a mare has since won two from three and that includes a two-length Group 2 victory last start.

Her only two losses this prep were both on wet tracks and going straight to 1400m suggests that Regal Vow is ready to roll fresh in a thin race vs her own sex.

Value: 8. Rose Of Shalaa. As a 64-rater, she's not well placed under the set and weights penalties of the race, but there's still some upside with this mare.

Rose Of Shalaa showed potential early and after mixing her form over two subsequent campaigns, the four-year-old has placed in both runs this time in.

She should've won fresh, as Rose Of Shalaa was held-up at key stages and off a quiet ride second-up, she finished off well despite being unsuited.

Race 3 - 1:20PM The Donovan + Co Mystic Journey Tips (1100m)

Best: 2. Miss Aria. Interestingly, Miss Aria stays at 1100m for Saturday's third-up attempt and most of her winning form has come in the 1200m-1400m range.

She's still versatile and classy enough to get away with this, while the daughter of Zoustar meets Samangu (fav) 4kg better off from their recent clash.

She was taking ground off Samangu, who had all favours and with that key rival deeper into the prep, Miss Aria could have more improvement now third-up.
Value: 1. Roll On High. Providing she comes through this, Roll On High is likely to then head north and contest stakes races over the Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Over 1100m, she could be the least suited in this field over the distance, however, the four-year-old is clearly the class horse of this fillies and mares race.

At her best, she was a stakes winner over Joliestar and Kimochi (both subsequent Group 1 winners), which is light years above the credentials of this lot.

Race 4 - 1:55PM Barastoc Handicap Tips (1200m)

Best: 11. Documentary. He bolted in with a hot maiden on debut at Moonee Valley, with the placegetters of that January 24 event both subsequent winners.

Documentary progressed from that to take out a BM64 when remaining over six furlongs at The Valley and this a harder assignment for the hat-trick bid.

The lightly raced six-year-old could be even more effective on a bigger track and in a race with more tempo, while he's won a jump-out since the February 14 triumph.

Value: 5. Pure Alpha. This Chris Waller-trained galloper was consistent early, with two wins and three seconds recorded from his first five starts in Sydney.

He's been given time since a September miss and blinkers go on ahead of Saturday's return, with that key gear change being in effect via a recent jump-out win.

Pure Alpha looked a one-paced miler in the making, which makes a 1200m placement interesting, but his Flemington workout suggests that he's forward.

Race 5 - 2:30PM The IRT VOBIS Platinum Guineas Tips (1600m)

Best: 12. Miss Playlounge. One of the better value runners on the card is Miss Playlounge, who was good on return over 1300m despite going down as fav.

She's still a work in progress, but the Clinton McDonald-trained filly clearly has ability and blinkers go on for what is a suitable rise in distance second-up.

Miss Playlounge could've used blinkers after looming into her third outing before a spell and Too Darn Discreet (winner) won her next two at Group level.
Value: 6. Bit Of Shoosh. He didn't beat much on debut, although Bit Of Shoosh was in a race own at Kyneton, where he absolutely bolted in over 1454m.

Despite recording a 5.5-length win, the son of Shamus Award had to overcome trouble, with the gelding checked at the 1200m and he lost ground as a result.

There's clearly an opinion of him, with Jamie Kah going to Kyneton for one ride before night engagements at Pakenham and she stays aboard for start two.

Race 6 - 3:05PM Sportsbet Peter Young Stakes Tips (1800m)

Best: 6. Zardozi. Pride Of Jenni adds plenty of intrigue to arguably the most interesting race on the meeting, with the exciting front-runner returning off a bleed.

It's worth noting that Pride Of Jenni has never saluted in eight first-up tries and the market is leaning with Zardozi, who shouldn't be far away now third-up.

She'd prefer to be at Flemington, but the Godolphin mare is still progressing well, with an improved second-up effort and 1800m is ideal at this stage.

Value: 3. Que Tempesta. With an Australian campaign under the belt, Que Tempesta could be the one in this Group 2 field with the most upside going forward.

Despite doing a lot wrong, the six-year-old showed enough in his first Down Under prep and the best performance was the effort over 1700m at Caulfield.

Que Tempesta needs to tidy up his racing manners if he's to progress and he arrives to this resumption off three public hit-outs (improved with each one).

Race 7 - 3:40PM Cylinder VOBIS Gold Dash Tips (1200m)

Best: 3. She's Got Pizzazz. 1000m can be a specialists distance and with her recent return coming over five furlongs, it was a good run over an unsuitable trip.

She's Got Pizzazz isn't a 1000m horse and in a leader-dominated event on March 1, she was never in winning contention, but her late work was encouraging.

The four-year-old won two of three starts last prep, with the latest a 1400m Listed win here and she was a month between runs second-up over this track/trip.
Value: 10. Peridot Star. This Phillip Stokes-trained filly was lost in transit when produced up the Flemington straight last start and she was flying before that.

After racing on wet tracks via her first two starts, Peridot Star recorded two synthetic wins and it's not easy beating older horses as an early three-year-old filly.

Peridot Star switched to turf for a stylish fresh victory when completing a hat-trick on February 6, while she's back around a bend for this third-up tilt.

Race 8 - 4:15PM The TBV VOBIS Platinum Showdown Tips (1200m)

Best: 5. McGaw. Whether he's mature enough to progress now remains to be seen, although I suspect that McGaw will be the best horse to come from this race.

Visually, he was impressive when landing good bets on debut at Pakenham, where the big, galloping gasometer was hard to miss when launching from the rear.

McGaw has his quirks, which was evident in a jump-out win when having a look around Caulfield, but he has class and these Showdowns generally lack depth.
Value: 10. Rohesia. It was an honest chasing effort from Rohesia on debut and the daughter of Hanseatic was tipped out after that November 9 attempt.

That form reads well enough through Within The Law, with that winner being one of the most consistent juveniles so far this season (three wins and a second).

She's won two Flemington jump-outs leading into what looks a fresh target and going off her first race day appearance, Rohesia should eat up the extra trip.

Race 9 - 4:55PM Yulong VOBIS Gold Sprint Tips (1200m)

Best: 9. Prancing Spirit. His overall rating appears a touch low in what's an open race, however, Prancing Spirit arguably should've won this race last year.

The five-year-old was badly held-up in the straight via the 2024 VOBIS Gold Sprint and he's produced for this edition off the same second-up platform.

His most recent return was better than the fresh lead-up last autumn and he put a safe margin on Is It Me (Group 3 winner) when rounding out that prep.

Value: 3. Nicolini Vito. This son of Nicconi has been a decent campaigner for the Hayes stable and Nicolini Vito has always been a dangerous fresh horse.

His only time finishing out of the money first-up was a fifth in the Group 3 Aurie's Star and fresh last autumn, he was only narrowly beaten by Maharba.

After clashing with the likes of Another Wil, Jimmysstar, Attrition, Craig and Right To Party earlier this season, Nicolini Vito does look very well placed here.

Race 10 - 5:35PM Southport Tycoon Country Mile Series Final Tips (1600m)

Best: 2. Mixxit. After not showing a great deal over his first prep, the penny dropped for Mixxit in his second campaign, with a winning hat-trick in December.

He atoned from a luckless return and despite the winning streak, Enver Jusufovic tipped him out and I love them going to the paddock while in good touch.

Mixxit got the job done on return at Bendigo, with that March 2 victory his first under a mile and while he's drawn out, the gelding finds another winnable race.

Value: 13. Flycatcher. Flycatcher has to be included if the Mixxit form is being respected, as he worked home for third behind the fav in their Bendigo clash.

He also has a 2.5kg weight swing on Mixxit from that March 2 event and that followed a return second behind Dirty Grin, who saluted again last Sunday.

The lightly raced five-year-old was originally a Godolphin horse and while he may have had a few issues, Craig Widdison has Flycatcher ticking over nicely.
