Bendigo Tips August 14

Inglis Xtra Bonus Maiden Plate Tips (Race 4)

Bendigo Favourite - Race 4 No. 3 Phineas

He's very well-bred, with Phineas coming from the same family as Danasinga and Tracey's Element (both Group 1 winners) and the latter is the dam of champion mare, Typhoon Tracy (six-time Group 1 winner).

The son of Shamus Award was heavily supported for his debut assignment on August 1 and it was a messy watch for those who were on at early each-way quote, as he no luck in that 1400m attempt.

When the race was over, Phineas got home with race-fastest last 200m of his Cranbourne maiden and vs some key threats in this field who have had their chances, he's well suited up to a mile for start two.

Bendigo Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 9 Placentia Bay

While he couldn't build on an impressive debut victory on September 5, Placentia Bay was still very honest in six appearances over his first campaign, with four placings from his last five outings.

With back-to-back placings recorded at Moonee Valley via a pair of 2040m showings to round out the prep, the Ciaron Maher-trained galloper is likely to get over more ground this time in, but 1500m suits fresh.

Placentia Bay looks forward off his two June jump-outs, where he was runner-up in a 1000m heat before finding traffic when completing a 1200m jump-out and Jamie Melham has barrier one at her disposal here.

Bendigo Best Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Malletier

This son of Nicconi had his chance first-up at Sandown, where he was on the second line of betting for a 1000m BM70, however, Malletier was clearly in need of the run via that most recent resumption.

That July 30 event was taken out by a fitter Dreamzel, who followed that up with an eye-catching fourth-place finish at Moonee Valley last Saturday, while this gelding is down in grade second-up.

Given it's only a 1000m dash, the 3kg penalty for the drop to BM64 company isn't a huge concern for Malletier, who retains the services of Blake Shinn and with improvement to come, he's well placed to bounce back.

Bendigo Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Steal The Sun

A proven fresh performer who saluted here on return last prep, Steal The Sun could easily be marked shorter for the last at Bendigo, where the six-year-old gets nice relief after the 3kg claim from Rose Hammond.

Steal The Sun defeated Shoeless via her fresh success last October and that runner-up has been super consistent in subsequent runs, which includes back-to-back metro wins via his last two metro attempts.

She held her form over spring and early summer, with a third-up triumph in a decent edition of the Tatura Cup and the mare was then competitive twice at metro level before running into a smart Revelare at Sandown.
