Australia secured an entertaining 17-run win in the first T20I against South Africa in Darwin. Batting first, the hosts made a slow start, losing three early wickets. However, Cameron Green (35) and Tim David (83) put the Aussies back on track.

In the end, Australia scored 178 runs in their 20 overs. It was a par score with few contributions other than the two mentioned above. The bowlers then finished the job, keeping South Africa to 161 in their 20 overs.

Ben Dwarshuis and Josh Hazelwood both took three wickets and went at under seven to the over.

South Africa will be disappointed with the opening match results, particularly after starting well with bat and ball, only to let it slip later on.

Bowling first, Rabada took two early wickets as Australia slumped to 30-3. However, Geroge Linda and Corbin Bosch took a lot of punishment in their five overs, going and over 13 and 14 runs to the over. 

Kwena Maphaka pulled it back with a brilliant spell, taking 4-20 to keep Australia to 178 in 20 overs. Aiden Markram then hit three boundaries in the opening over of the chase but was dismissed off his sixth delivery.

Ryan Rickelton fought a lone hand, socring 71 off 55 balls. Tristan Stubbs found some form with 37 runs, but more was needed from the middle order. In the end, the visitors could only reach 161 in 20 overs.

Verdict

I am backing Tim David to top score for Australia and hit over 21.5 runs as my best bet. For the Proteas, Ryan Rickelton fought a lone hand in the first match, he can continue that good form.
