Australia has been a bogey for India in tournament matches recently, especially when everything is on the line, with the Aussies claiming victory in the ICC World Test Championship and also beating the men in blue on their home turf in the ICC Cricket World cup in 2023.

Travis Head has been the hero in both instances, scoring 163 in the first innings of the Test Championship Final and 137 in the ODI World Cup.

The only right thing to do is back Travis Head to play hero again, especially considering how well he was batting before the rain hit against Afghanistan.

Ben Dwarshuis is becoming the most reliable and consistent quick for Australia with their three regular fast-bowlers out of this tournament. Dwarshuis has six wickets to his name in 2 innings bowled and will be the biggest thorn for the Indians in the semi.

Head to Head

Matches Played: 151
Australia: 84
India: 57
Draw: 10

  • Australia won the most recent match by 6 wickets in the Final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
  • India have won 3 of the last 5 ODI matches against Australia.

Australia Form

What is the form of Australia? It is really hard to tell after their match against South Africa was rained out without a ball and their match against Afghanistan was a washout.

To be fair, Australia were in full command of the match against Afghanistan, holding them to 273 runs and were well on their way to reaching their total, sitting at 109/1 after just 12.5 overs played before the rain struck.

Travis Head bounced back from his 6 runs against England in the opener and was well in with 59 runs from 40 balls against Afghanistan before play was stopped.

Ben Dwarshuis was clinical again against Afghanistan, just as he was against England, claiming another 3 wickets to take his tournament tally to 6 wickets as he cements his claim to be a successor to the big 3 Aussie quicks in the future.

Australia Squad

Steve Smith (c), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa. Travelling reserve: Cooper Connolly.

India Form

India have won all three of their matches convincingly in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, taking the scalps of Bangladesh, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Shreyas Iyer leads the Indians in runs in this tournament with 150 runs, after steering the favourites to their win against New Zealand with 79, the 30-year-old’s second consecutive half century after scoring 56 against Pakistan.

Virat Kohli scored his first century in over a year in India’s win over Pakistan with the veteran batsman notching 100* not out.

The depth of bowling has been the danger for India in this tournament with five players taking 4 wickets or more with Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Shami all taking 5 wickets each.

India Squad

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy
