North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Geelong Cats AFL Tips - Cameron edges closer to career best

In the Round 20 match of the 2025 AFL season, the Geelong Cats are expected to dominate the North Melbourne Kangaroos, with predictions of a 40+ margin victory. Despite North Melbourne showing potential, their defensive vulnerabilities and reliance on third-string ruckman Brynn Teakle suggest a challenging game ahead. Geelong's strong midfield and the prowess of Jeremy Cameron, who is close to breaking his personal goal-scoring record, will likely secure a significant win and push the Cats closer to a top four finish.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Geelong Cats, Round 20 2025 - Expert Prediction

Although there are positive signs for Norths, there is still plenty to work on, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They now face the cats who have no issue, even against top sides, to put up points and hit the 100 mark, which they have done in 50% of their matches this season.

With a 13-0 head to head record for the Cats against the Kangaroos going into this match it will be tough to see North Melbourne doing anything to deter a 14th victory. The question will be by how much. I expect it to blowout due to the fact that North Melbourne will be running their third-string ruckman Brynn Teakle and could even debut Taylor Goad as his backup.

With the class of the Geelong midfield they will control the stoppages and take advantage of the poor defence of North Melbourne in that area. Expect a 110 point haul for the Cats, who will cover.

If the theory is correct then the man leading the Coleman race will likely be floating around to reap the rewards. Jeremy Cameron has 64 goals this season, just 12 away from his career-best 76 goal tally for GWS in 2019 and he would love to put a big dint in that against the Roos on Saturday.

  • Geelong have won 13 straight matches against North Melbourne.
  • Geelong have scored 113 points or more in 6 of their last 9 matches.
  • North Melbourne have conceded 119 points or more in 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Geelong are ranked 2nd in Points From Stoppage vs North Melbourne's defence ranked 18th
  • Jeremy Cameron has 4+ goals in 4 of his last 5 matches.

Head to Head

Geelong have won the last 13 encounters with North Melbourne with the latest a 40-point victory in Round 21 last season.

The last 5 wins for the Cats have been by a 40+ margin and 4 of the last 5 have gone over the game total.

The Kangaroos continue to show promise without getting the result. Norths kept it tight with the Swans last week until the beginning of the final term when Sydney built on their 12-point lead by kicking the first 4 goals of the quarter, running away in the end 84-53.

The Roos stars Harry Sheezel, Jye Simpkin and Caleb Daniel did their usual work around the ball all finishing the match with 27+ disposals, however, even the trio were found guilty at times of turning the ball over unnecessarily and wasting forward pressure.

The positive for the Roos is that even with their third-string ruckman Brynn Teakle playing his first game of the season, they were able to compete in the match for a long period once again, proving that they will come out of the 2025 season building a strong platform for 2026.

North Melbourne Kangaroos Team News

Callum Coleman-Jones will be out for 2-3 weeks with a calf complaint, paving the way for Brynn Teakle to make his first start of the season in the ruck in only his second appearance of the year.

Nick Larkey will be a test and is a large possibility to be cleared.

The Cats bounced back after their loss to GWS two weeks ago by controlling their match against St Kilda from the get-go. Geelong kicked the first 5 goals of the match and led by 24 points at the first break, never looking back, beating the Saints 113-82.

Jeremy Cameron kicked 5 goals in the match, working off the hard work off his midfield who repeatedly beat St. Kilda on the outskirts. Max Holmes was the standout with 32 disposals and 5 clearances.

The win was important for the Cats who now have a pretty soft run home and should manage to hold onto a top four finish and push for a home final in Week 1.

Tom Stewart jarred his knee in the Cats win over the Saints, however, good sources say he should be cleared to play.
