Full disclosure, I am a Gold Coast die hard and am going to their defence by putting their poor performance last week down to their winless record at Adelaide Oval. It was just one round prior where they held Collingwood scoreless in the first half at People First Stadium and handed a loss to the league leaders.

Brisbane have dominated the head to head matchups with the Gold Coast, so, it is time for that trend to be broken. If the Coast are truly a different side this year then they need a win here and it will be a HUGE step towards securing their spot in the AFL Finals for the first time.

With Dan Rioli out for 6 weeks, John Noble is going to have to go to another level once again, filling the void in the halfback line. Noble was quiet for his standards last week but will get a heap of touches this week.

20-year-old Logan Morris has cemented his place in the forward line for Brisbane for many years to come and he will bother the Suns at the back in this clash.

Brisbane has won comfortably in all of those 11 of those 12 wins by a margin of 17 points or more, including exactly that margin back in Round 9 this season at the Gabba.

The Suns copped a major setback on their course to their first finals appearance in their 14-year history, getting punished by the Adelaide Crows in the City of Churches. The Gold Coast were held goalless until well into the third quarter, eventually going down to high-flying Adelaide 46-107.

To rub salt into the wound they suffered a major injury to halfback Dan Rioli who fractured his leg and will be out for the rest of the home and away season.

Being a Suns fan I'm not ruling them out and holding onto the fact that they have never won at Adelaide Oval since joining the AFL in 2011. It is not a positive, but it is a perspective.

Coming back to Carrara will be a boost for them. The Suns took down Collingwood at home the week prior and Damien Hardwick will be leaning more on that performance than the one against the Crows.

Brisbane are chugging along nicely and with the Pies dropping two in a row, they are now a half a win away from top spot on the ladder as they hunt for the minor premiership in the final 5 rounds of the regular season.

Chris Fagan and the Lions have had a superb premiership defence and the scary part of it all is that it is their younger generation that is lifting them at the moment. Will and Levi Ashcroft along with Jaspa Fletcher are all 21 or younger and are all game changes for the Lions with the trio all averaging 20 disposals or more with Will Ashcroft topping the stat sheet with 27 per game.

Then there is Logan Morris who had to fill the shoes of Joe Daniher in the forward line, and at the ripe age of just 20-years-old the 31st pick of the 2023 draft now leads the Lions with 34 goals this season.
