GWS Giants vs St Kilda Saints AFL Round 24 Tips - Giants set to flex finals muscles against Saints at ENGIE Stadium

The GWS Giants are expected to dominate the St Kilda Saints in the AFL 2025 Round 24 matchup. The Giants are in stellar form, with a recent triumph over the Gold Coast, displaying their defensive strength and tactical ball movements. Despite St Kilda's four consecutive wins, their close-call victory against a weakened Essendon suggests vulnerability. Led by the likes of Lachie Ash, the Giants' team balance might be too much for St Kilda. Expect a high-scoring game, with GWS covering the line.

GWS will chalk up a big win over St Kilda to close out the home and away season.

The Giants have won eight of their past nine and were ruthless against the top-four contenders, Gold Coast, last weekend, sending a statement with their 35-point win.

St Kilda come in with four-straight wins but just scraped through against a depleted Essendon outfit by two points last weekend.

They face a reality check against a Giant side that can cut sides apart with their sublime and clean ball movement from defence, while their midfield group come in with red-hot form

Hard to see the Saints controlling territory and unless Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera can produce another superman performance, this one does look headed one way.

Take the Giants to cover the line. Lachie Ash is one of a number that will find plenty of the footy, while the total points over looks in play.

  • GWS come off a 41-point win over the Gold Coast Suns
  • Lachie Ash had 33 disposals the last time the two sides met.
  • Jesse Hogan and Jack Buckley among possible inclusions for home side
  • GWS rank 3rd in the competition over the past five rounds for scores generated from their defensive half

Head to Head

The two sides met during Gather Round earlier this season and it was GWS that registered a 28-point win. Toby Greene booted five goals, while Lachie Ash had 33 disposals. Cooper Sharman and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera booted three each for St Kilda.

The Giants have won the past three between the two sides. Toby Greene has kicked 10 goals from his past four matches against the Saints, while Jack Higgins has kicked 12 from his past five for St Kilda. Tom Green and Jack Sinclair have had 25+ disposals from four of the past five for their respective sides.

GWS have won eight of their past nine. They were blown off the park by a dominant Western Bulldogs outfit three weeks ago but have rebounded with big wins over North Melbourne and the Gold Coast Suns. In 12 matches against sides in the bottom half of the ladder this season, they have won 10.

When the Giants are firing they are hard to stop when transitioning the ball from their backline and rank 3rd in the competition over the past five rounds for scores generated from their defensive half, while they are 5th for total disposals.

Finn Callaghan, Lachie Whitfield, Tom Green and Lachie Ash all had 25+ disposals last weekend. Green has had 25+ in all but two matches this season, while Whitfield has hit that mark in his past six.

GWS Giants Team News

No injuries for the Giants out of the Gold Coast match. Jesse Hogan and Jack Buckley are nearing a return but Brent Daniels and Josh Kelly are unlikely. It will be interesting to see what the Giants do at selection should Hogan be available with the stand-in forwards, Harry Rowston and Max Gruzewski, combining for seven goals last weekend.

St Kilda have won four in a row, with those all coming by below 10 points. 13 of the Saints last 14 matches have been decided by 39.5 points or less. Outside of Victoria in 2025, the Saints are 2-4.

Over the past five rounds, they have been able to match sides in terms of winning the footy, ranking 7th for disposals and clearances but a lack of pressure has led to them ranking 14th for both inside 50s and fewest inside 50s conceded.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has been the standout player at St Kilda this season but was slightly down on normal output last weekend with 24 disposals. He had hit  30+ in his four matches prior to that.

No injuries for St Kilda to come out of the Essendon match. The Saints may take a look at some emerging talent they have in the VFL, while Jimmy Webster might be available to return from a calf injury.
