Jannik Sinner vs Tomas Machac Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

World No. 2 Jannik Sinner returns to action for the first time since the Australian Open when he squares off against Tomas Machac in the first round of the Qatar Open in Doha on Monday.

Sinner is playing Doha for the first time after the tournament was upgraded to 500 status. The Italian has opted to play Rotterdam in the weeks following the Australian Open in previous years (he was suspended from this part of the year in 2025), but has switched things up and will now potentially face rival Carlos Alcaraz for the title in Doha over the next week. Meanwhile, it's been more of the same for Machac in these early stages of 2026 - swashbuckling top 10-level tennis followed by retirements and injury troubles - which version of the Czech will show up in Doha?

Regardless, you've got to back Sinner in fairly routine circumstances. The four-time major champion has an incredibly dominant record against players outside the top 30 over the last few years and there's nothing to suggest that's about to change. Machac, for how dangerous he can be, is a poor 2-11 vs top five players and his body simply can't be trusted. Backing Sinner to cover a -5.5 games line.
  • Sinner is 71-2 vs players outside the top 30 since August 2023
  • One of those defeats was via retirement & the other was vs Alexander Bublik (now top 10)
  • Seven of Sinner's last eight wins in best-of-three matches vs players outside the top 30 have covered a -5.5 games line
  • Machac has gone 2-11 vs top five players in his career
  • Machac is coming off a retirement in Montpellier in his last tournament

Jannik Sinner Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 5-1
  • ATP Doha Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 2
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1

Sinner is gearing up for his second tournament of the season after his Australian Open dominance came to a shock end.

It was a turbulent tournament for Sinner - he was down and out in the heat against Eliot Spizzirri in the third round before the roof was closed. The Italian bounced back with straight sets wins over Luciano Darderi and Ben Shelton, but was stunned by a resurgent performance by Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Sinner twice led by a set, but came unstuck by a terrible break point conversion record, going 2/18 and missing a handful of chances in the fifth and deciding set.

“I had my chances. It was in the fifth set. Many break points, I couldn't use them. He came up with some great shots,” Sinner said.
“I decided a couple of different things. Today they didn't work, but that's how tennis is."

Sinner will be hoping to get back on track in Doha as he aims for his 25th career title.

Tomas Machac Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 7-3
  • ATP Doha Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 31
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 20 (March 2025)

At his very best, Machac is easily a top 10 talent, but unfortunately he just can't get sustained form on the board due to injury.

The Czech produced some extraordinary tennis in Adelaide to secure his second ATP title at the start of the season, defeating Tommy Paul and Ugo Humbert in the semis and final.

Machac backed it up with a third round finish at the Australian Open, beating former top five players Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas before falling to Lorenzo Musetti in five sets.

Returning to action in Montpellier, Machac was forced to retire with a knee injury when trailing Arthur Gea 3-6 5-4.
