Daniil Medvedev vs Juncheng Shang Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Fourth seed Daniil Medvedev launches his bid for a second Qatar Open title when he comes up against Jungcheng Shang in the first round in Doha on Monday night.
Medvedev has won 22 titles across his career, but never prevailed twice in the same city - can the Russian snap that sequence in Doha this week? It's unlikely as both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are in the draw, but hey, records are meant to be broken. In the short-term, Medvedev will simply be hoping to break a two-match losing run after some tough defeats to players that have had the edge over him in Learner Tien and Ugo Humbert. Meanwhile, Shang's career has been plagued by injuries, with the talented Chinese youngster down at No. 259 in the rankings - he will simply be hoping to string some injury-free tournaments together in these early stages of 2026.
Overall, this looks like a good spot for Medvedev to get back on track. He's never lost a completed match in Doha, while Shang remains unreliable in physical matches. Look for Medvedev to extend rallies and gradually grind Shang down from the back of the court. I'll back the fourth seed in straights.

Daniil Medvedev Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 8-2
- ATP Doha Record: 6-1
- Current Ranking: No. 11
- Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)
Medvedev ended his 882-day title drought in Almaty late last year and he's been in solid form ever since as she looks to break back into the top 10 and beyond.
The 29-year-old started 2026 in perfect fashion, winning his 22nd career title in Brisbane, extending his ridiculous record of winning all of his trophies at different tournaments.
However, Medvedev couldn't translate that Brisbane triumph into a deep Australian Open run, bowing out in straight sets in the R16 against new nemesis Learner Tien.
Medvedev also copped a rough draw as he returned to action in Rotterdam, suffering a first round exit to Ugo Humbert, his fourth loss to the Frenchman.
The Russian now returns to Doha for a second crack at the title after taking home the silverware in 2023, beating Andy Murray and Felix Auger-Aliassime along the way.
Jungcheng Shang Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 3-2
- ATP Doha Record: 0-0
- Current Ranking: No. 259
- Career-High Ranking: No. 47 (2024)
Shang's fledgling career has been plagued by injuries. The talented youngster looked set for big things after claiming his maiden ATP title in Chengdu in 2024 and cracking the top 50, but his body let him down last year.
The 21-year-old has dropped to No. 259 in the rankings and now has to grind his way back in 2026.
It's been a decent start to the year though - Shang made the quarter-finals of Hong Kong, going down to eventual champion Alexander Bublik, but he would have been disappointed with a second round exit at the Australian Open to Botic Van De Zandschulp.
Shang is making his debut in Doha this tournament and will face a top 20 player for the 15th time.
