It was a sizzling summer down under for Wawrinka, who impressed with some throwback United Cup performances for Switzerland before reaching the third round of the Australian Open, where he took a set off Taylor Fritz. As a result, the 40-year-old and wildcard this week is close to re-entering the top 100 in what is his last season on tour. Meanwhile, Medjedovic remains one of the most dangerous players on tour, but his fitness and consistency are still holding him back. The Serbian took a set off Alex de Minaur at the Australian Open before fading physically.

The 22-year-old has experienced a decent start to 2026. Medjedovic qualified for the Auckland main draw and beat Aleksandar Kovacevic before falling to eventual champion Jakub Mensik.

The Serbian also made the second round of the Australian Open, toppling Mariano Navone before going down in four sets to sixth seed Alex de Minaur after taking the opener.

Medjedovic is capable of hanging with the best players in the world, but he's not physically up to scratch and it's continued to prevent him from breaking into the top 50.

The 40-year-old has clearly put in the hard yards during preseason - Wawrinka was in great shape and physical condition as he produced some impressive performances in the United Cup, defeating Arthur Rinderknech and taking sets off Hubert Hurkacz, Zizou Bergs and Flavio Cobolli.

The three-time major champion continued his great form at the Australian Open, where he defeated Laslo Djere and Arthur Gea to reach the third round, where he troubled fifth seed Taylor Fritz in a four-set defeat.
