Dino Prizmic and Justin Engel gear up for a critical battle at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, each needing a victory to keep their semi-final hopes alive. Both players are coming off opening losses, with Prizmic struggling on the fast courts, and Engel showing promise on such surfaces in the past. Engel’s recent form includes a notable performance in Stuttgart, enhancing his prospects. Despite Prizmic's prior win over Engel on clay, the dynamics on the fast surface may favor the latter in their upcoming encounter.

Dino Prizmic vs Justin Engel Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's a must-win clash for Dino Prizmic and Justin Engel as the pair look to keep their semi-final chances alive at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah on Thursday.

Both players are coming off opening defeats in Red Group action, meaning a victory here is pretty much essential if they want a realistic shot of advancing into the knockout phase. Prizmic started slowly and never really going going in a four-set defeat to Nishesh Basavareddy, while Engel also went down in four sets to Alexander Blockx.

We saw three upsets in the opening group matches, which isn't entirely surprising when it comes to this shortened format of the game. Prizmic was on record before the tournament in saying he couldn't believe how quick the courts were playing - and for someone who says clay is his preferred surface, it also wasn't surprising to see how he struggled against Basavareddy, with his time taken away. Engel on the other hand has enjoyed success on fast surfaces already in his young career, reaching the ATP Stuttgart quarter-finals earlier in the year. Both players saw Over 22.5 games in their respective losses yesterday and I think Engel represents a value bet in the H2H market.

Head To Head

These two have played once before, with Prizmic claiming a routine 6-2 6-2 victory on clay at a Challenger in San Marino earlier this year.

Dino Prizmic Form Analysis

Prizmic was underwhelming against Basavareddy to launch his Next Gen ATP Finals campaign on Wednesday, slumping to a 4-2 4-3(7) 3-4(3) 4-2 defeat.

The Croatian came unstuck in backhand-to-backhand duels with Basavareddy and some inopportune double faults cost him dearly during the tiebreaks, where he had a chance to turn the match around, blowing three set points in the second set.

It continued a disappointing end to the season for Prizmic, who has now lost five of his last six matches and was last seen before Jeddah retiring in Stockholm with a hamstring injury.

But, overall, it was a good year for Prizmic - he compiled an impressive 27-9 mark on the Challenger circuit, reaching five finals and capturing two titles.

Justin Engel Form Analysis

Engel entered the Next Gen ATP Finals as an alternate following the withdrawal of Jakub Mensik, but he couldn't get off to a winning start, going down 3-4(7) 4-2 4-2 4-2 to Blockx.

The 18-year-old started strongly in the opener, but couldn't maintain his momentum, failing to break serve for the remaining three sets.

The German has made a fantastic breakthrough in 2025, improving his ranking from 400 at the start of the season to a current mark of No. 187.

Engel made his first real impact at tour-level at the grass court event in Stuttgart, making his first ATP quarter-final with wins over James Duckworth and No. 35 Alex Michelsen before falling in a tight match to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Engel became the second-youngest player after Rafael Nadal since 1990 to register tour-level wins on hardcourt, clay and grass in that tournament.

One of the most promising teenagers coming through the ranks, Engel had won eight of his last 10 matches coming into the Next Gen ATP Finals, including winning the Challenger title in Hamburg.

Verdict

Both players saw Over 22.5 games in four-set defeats in their openers and I can't see either player winning this in straights.

Prizmic struggled in the quick conditions, so Engel looks good value as the underdog here.
