Having claimed the 2023 Dubai title and compiled a strong 13-4 record at the tournament, Medvedev is arguably the favourite to add another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet this week - although to do so, he will have to snap his rather extraordinary record of not winning a title in the same city, with all 22 of his trophies coming at different tournaments. Medvedev hasn't dropped a set all week and will be confident of keeping that run going against Brooksby, who is back inside the top 50 and continuing his comeback from a long suspension a couple of years ago.

Brooksby actually has a stellar 9-1 record in tour-level quarter-finals, but only one of those victories has come against a top 20 player. This is a big step up in class and Medvedev could prove a horror matchup - they have similar sort of games in terms of trying to grind their opponents down from the baseline, but the former World No. 1 has a more solid base level and higher ceiling. Medvedev has been cruising all week in Dubai and I'm backing another straight sets victory for the third seed.

It's been a solid start to the season for Medvedev, who is gunning for his second title of 2026 this week and looking to break back into the top 10.

Medvedev launched his season with his 22nd title in Brisbane before making the fourth round of Brisbane, where he lost to new bogey player Learner Tien.

The former US Open champion suffered early exits in Rotterdam and Doha, but has got back to winning ways in Dubai, easing past Juncheng Shang 6-1 6-3 and Stan Wawrinka 6-2 6-3.

“I think [I’m moving in the right direction],” said Medvedev after beating Wawrinka.

“Two good matches [so far in Dubai]. Convincing in the score, which is sometimes more important. I have more time mentally to prepare for the next round and I’m looking forward to it.”

Brooksby has improved his ranking from outside the top 900 this time last year to inside the top 50, returning from suspension and inching closer to his career-high mark of No. 33, achieved four years ago.

The American had suffered three opening round defeats in a row coming into Dubai at the Australian Open, Dallas and Doha.

However, he had tough draws in all three against Alexander Bublik, Tommy Paul and Jiri Lehecka.

Brooksby has returned to the winners circle in his Dubai debut this week, taking care of Zizou Bergs 6-3 6-4 before upsetting Karen Khachanov 7-6(6) 6-4.
