Casper Ruud, Geneva's three-time champion with a stellar 15-1 record at the event, takes on Alexei Popyrin in the quarter-finals. Ruud arrives in great form, but Popyrin has recently found his rhythm on clay, highlighted by an upset over Taylor Fritz. While Ruud is favored, analysts tip under 22.5 games and see value in backing a potential Popyrin upset if the Australian takes the first set. Head-to-head stands at 1-1. Casper Ruud vs Alexei Popyrin Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Alexei Popyrin targets a second big upset in a row when he faces three-time Geneva Open champion Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
It's been a horror season for Popyrin, but he's started to find some form on clay and this represents a great opportunity to continue his positive momentum after taking his 14th top 10 scalp over Taylor Fritz in the previous round.
Ruud is on fire with seven wins from his last eight matches after his Rome runner-up finish and improved his dominant Geneva record to 15-1 after toppling the dangerous Raphael Collignon in straight sets.
This is an intriguing matchup. Ruud has a genuine chance to go very deep at Roland Garros and if he continues to advance in Geneva, that would require basically non-stop tennis for four straight weeks. Popyrin meanwhile needs every win and ranking point he can get right now, so his attention, focus and motivation is very much solely on this clash.
I'm going to back the same strategy I did in the Ruud vs Collignon match - and that's back Under 22.5 games as the main play, with a smaller stake on the upset. If Popyrin can win the first set, I think there's a decent chance Ruud accepts his fate rather than using extra energy to force a decider - but if the Norwegian takes the opener, he will fancy his chances of closing it out quickly.

Casper Ruud Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 18-10
- ATP Geneva Record: 15-1
- Current Ranking: No. 17
- Career-High Ranking: No. 2 (2022)
Ruud made a subdued start to the season, struggling to build any real momentum across the opening months. His lone quarter-final came in Delray Beach - and even that required minimal match play - highlighting a lack of rhythm and consistency early on.
There were clear factors behind the slow beginning. The arrival of his first child naturally shifted priorities, while a mid-tournament retirement in Monte Carlo due to injury further disrupted his progress.
Since then, Ruud has steadily worked his way back into form. A quarter-final run in Madrid signalled improvement, before he elevated his level significantly to reach the Rome Masters final.
That run was particularly impressive, with Ruud defeating four higher-ranked opponents in Lorenzo Musetti, Karen Khachanov, Jiri Lehecka and Luciano Darderi, before falling 6-4, 6-4 to Jannik Sinner in the final.
Backing up quickly in Geneva, Ruud has maintained that strong level, producing a clean performance with 21 winners to just 12 unforced errors in a 6-3, 7-5 win over Jenson Brooksby in the opening round.
Ruud continues to push any fatigue to the rear view mirror, defeating the in-form Raphael Collignon 7-6 6-2 in the second round, improving his incredible record to Geneva to 15-1 and keeping his hopes of a fourth title at the 250 tournament alive.
Alexei Popyrin Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 8-12
- ATP Geneva Record: 4-1
- Current Ranking: No. 61
- Career-High Ranking: No. 19 (August 2025)
Popyrin’s form has dipped sharply, with the Australian sliding well outside the top 20 less than a year after reaching that milestone for the first time.
A damaging 10-match losing streak stretching across the end of last season and into this year exposed the extent of his struggles, although the move onto clay has brought some modest improvement.
There have still been signs of inconsistency. A quarter-final run in Houston was encouraging, but it was followed by early exits in Monte Carlo and Madrid.
Rome offered a more positive snapshot. Popyrin produced a commanding 6-2, 6-3 win over former World No. 6 Matteo Berrettini, then backed it up with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory against Jakub Mensik to reach the third round, where his run ended against Jannik Sinner.
Now, Popyrin has made it back-to-back quarter-finals in Geneva. He opened with a hard-fought win, edging past World No. 165 Clement Tabur 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-4 before a commanding performance against Taylor Fritz, registering an impressive 6-4 6-4 victory. It was Popyrin's 14th top 10 win and his fourth in his last seven such matches on clay.
“I am very happy,” Popyrin said. “I am glad to be playing this level finally this year. As I think everyone knows, it has been a tough year for me. So playing this level a week before a Slam is always a great feeling.”
