Alex de Minaur faces Luciano Darderi in a highly-anticipated Hamburg Open quarter-final. De Minaur, regaining form after key wins on clay, is targeting his first clay-court semi-final this year. Darderi, on a breakthrough run, has yet to beat top-20 opponents in consecutive events. With both players showing resilience and strong performances, the matchup promises competitiveness, but De Minaur’s experience and recent momentum give him a slight advantage. Expect a tight, physical contest with over 22.5 games forecasted. Live streaming is available for viewers via Unibet, subject to geo-restrictions.

Alex de Minaur vs Luciano Darderi Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Alex de Minaur looks to make his first clay semi-final of the year when he comes up against the in-form Luciano Darderi in the Hamburg Open quarter-finals on Thursday night.

De Minaur arrived in Hamburg down on form and desperate for some match wins on clay ahead of Roland Garros. The Aussie has picked up two impressive victories on the dirt, outlasting Francisco Cerundolo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three sets.

Meanwhile, Darderi has continued his outstanding form after reaching his maiden Masters 1000 semi-final in Rome last week, toppling Roman Andres Burruchaga and Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets.

Darderi has now advanced to the Hamburg quarter-finals in all three of his appearances at the tournament - but he's gone 0-2 in his previous two outings at this stage. The Italian is also 0-3 vs top 20 players in quarter-final matches.

A week ago I'd say Darderi starts as favourite in this matchup, but de Minaur has restored some confidence and he would sense the opportunity to pick up 500 valuable ranking points this week. Darderi has never defeated top 20 opponents in back-to-back tournaments and de Minaur is as tough as they come in terms of needing patience and rally tolerance.

I still think this will be a very competitive match, but a resurgent de Minaur holds the edge.
  • De Minaur has won 20 of his last 28 clay matches vs players outside the top 10
  • De Minaur has 28-17 record in quarter-finals vs players outside the top 10
  • De Minaur has seen Over 22.5 games in 10 of his last 13 matches
  • Darderi is 1-5 vs top 10 players
  • Darderi is 0-3 vs top 20 players in quarter-final matches
  • Darderi has seen Over 22.5 games in his last three matches vs top 10 players
  • Darderi has seen Over 22.5 games in five of his last six matches

De Minaur vs Darderi Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Alex de Minaur Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 17-8
  • ATP Hamburg Record: 2-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 8
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 6

De Minaur has been unable to generate sustained momentum since lifting the Rotterdam title in early February, with his level dipping across recent tournaments.

Across his last seven events, the Australian had only managed to string together consecutive wins once, with a series of unexpected defeats to lower-ranked opponents highlighting a drop in the consistency that once defined his game.

Losses to Hamad Medjedovic in Barcelona and Rafael Jodar in Madrid reinforced those concerns, while his Rome campaign followed a similar script, going down in three sets to wildcard Matteo Arnaldi in his opening match.

However, there's been a much-needed response in Hamburg. De Minaur produced a spirited comeback to defeat Francisco Cerundolo 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in his opening match before producing some of his best tennis to outlast Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in difficult conditions to reach the last eight.

“The first set was close to some of the best stuff I’ve played in a while," de Minaur said post-match.
"I was proud of myself. It was never going to be easy. It’s raining outside, it’s super slow and super humid. We’re both very good movers, so it was going to be a very physical match, and I’m glad I stuck through and managed to find another gear in the third.”

Luciano Darderi Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 20-11
  • ATP Hamburg Record: 6-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 16
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 16 (May 2026)

Darderi has turned a strong opening to the season into a genuine breakthrough, rising into the top 20 for the first time in his career.

He made an immediate impact with a quarter-final run in Auckland before reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open. His form then peaked during the South American clay swing, finishing runner-up in Buenos Aires before going one better with the title in Santiago.

Although he maintained a solid level with a semi-final showing in Marrakech, his results at Masters 1000 level were underwhelming. Early exits in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, along with a second-round loss in Madrid, pointed to difficulties stepping up at the top tier.

That storyline shifted dramatically in Rome. Competing in front of a home crowd, Darderi powered into his first Masters semi-final, producing impressive comeback victories over Tommy Paul and Alexander Zverev, along with conquering in-form teenage star Rafael Jodar to firmly announce himself on the big stage.

Perhaps equally as impressive, Darderi has continued his momentum into Hamburg despite the short turnaround, posting two good wins over Roman Andres Burruchaga (6-3 7-6) and Yannick Hanfmann (7-5 7-6) to make his third straight quarter-final at the 500 tournament.
