Carlos Alcaraz vs Valentin Royer Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Carlos Alcaraz continues his bid for a first Qatar Open title when he squares off against Valentin Royer in the second round in Doha on Wednesday night.
Alcaraz improved his flawless 2026 record to 8-0 in his Doha opener, but not without a struggle, saving two set points in the second set tiebreak before edging out the big-serving Arthur Rinderknech 6-4 7-6. All four previous meetings between the pair were relatively close, so it was no surprise that Alcaraz found himself in a battle - especially in his first match since claiming the Career Grand Slam at the Australian Open last month. The win also doubled as Alcaraz's 150th hardcourt win at just 22 years of age.
The Spaniard almost certainly advances into the last eight, but Royer can keep this match relatively close and push it Over 18.5 total games. Alcaraz hasn't really been crushing players outside the top 50 in best-of-three set matches. He usually faces these opponents in the early rounds of tournaments that aren't maybe of the upmost importance too him, so he can tend to mess around and try out new things more than he normally does. Royer is yet to be blown away in six previous matches against top opponents, so in a match that offers little to no value, I'll jump on the Frenchman to play his part.

This will be the first ever meeting between the pair.
Carlos Alcaraz Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 8-0
- ATP Doha Record: 3-1
- Current Ranking: No. 1
- Career-High Ranking: No. 1
Alcaraz really couldn't be in a better place with his tennis right now.
The 22-year-old became the youngest player in history to secure the Career Grand Slam after winning his maiden Australian Open title last month, defeating Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in the semis and final. That's seven major titles for the Spaniard before the age of 23.
Returning to action for the first time since departing Melbourne, Alcaraz found himself in a tough battle with Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round of Doha.
Alcaraz was forced to save two set points in the second set before coming away with a 6-4 7-6(5) victory.
“It was really difficult,” Alcaraz said post-match. “Arthur is a really dangerous player. Nobody wants to play against him in the first round. I’m happy with the level. I’m happy that I got through difficult moments in the match. I’m happy that I stayed calm [and] positive, and played great tennis.”
Alcaraz improved to 8-0 in 2026, winning 16/21 points at the net.
Valentin Royer Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 1-6
- ATP Doha Record: 1-0
- Current Ranking: No. 60
- Career-High Ranking: No. 56 (Nov 2025)
Some strong Challenger results and a run to the Hangzhou final with wins over Andrey Rublev and Learner Tien propelled Royer into the world's top 60 late last year.
However, the Frenchman is struggling for consistency now that he's established himself on the main tour.
Indeed, Royer was on an eight-match losing streak before arriving in Doha - although he did win a set in six of those defeats, including against Taylor Fritz at the Australian Open.
Royer lost in Rotterdam qualifying last week, but took advantage of a good draw in Doha, easing past qualifier and countryman Pierre Hughes Herbert 6-0 6-3.
